Job description.
Reporting directly to the Manager – TSF Construction, the incumbent will be responsible for planning, coordinating, supervising, and ensuring the successful completion of infrastructure projects associated with tailings storage facilities (TSF). He/She will ensure that projects are executed in compliance with health, safety, environmental, and quality requirements, engineering plans, and approved timelines and budgets. The position will also involve coordinating multidisciplinary teams, contractors, and consultants involved in the projects. In this capacity, he/she will contribute to the development and commissioning of reliable TSF infrastructure that meets technical standards and the company's operational needs.
His/Her responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Planning and managing the execution of TSF infrastructure projects includes preparing execution plans, construction schedules, work packages, resource requirements, and monitoring projects from launch to completion and handover to operational teams.
- Supervising the construction and development of TSF infrastructure includes supervision of access and transport roads, embankments, drainage and water management systems, tailings and water pipelines, settling structures, spillway and diversion works, as well as other civil, mechanical and electrical infrastructure required for TSF operations.
- Coordinating engineering and construction activities includes collaborating with engineering teams and consultants, reviewing plans, technical specifications, execution methods and construction plans, and verifying constructability and compliance of works with approved designs.
- Managing contractors and subcontractors includes monitoring their performance in terms of safety, quality, costs and deadlines, verifying the availability of necessary resources, equipment and skills, and coordinating daily and weekly construction activities.
- Monitoring costs, deadlines and project progress includes tracking expenditures against approved budgets, early identification of risks of cost or schedule overruns, analysis of contractor claims and variations, and implementation of appropriate corrective actions.
- Managing project risks and HSE requirements includes promoting visible leadership in health, safety and environment, verifying the application of risk assessments, permits and safe work procedures, and stopping or escalating work when an unacceptable risk is identified.
- Ensuring quality control of construction work includes coordinating with QA/QC teams, monitoring inspections and tests, reviewing non-conformities and corrective actions, and verifying that the work complies with specifications, technical standards and project requirements.
- Coordinating interfaces between different stakeholders includes collaborating with engineering, construction, operations, maintenance, procurement, consultants, contractors and other departments to resolve technical and operational constraints and ensure efficient project execution.
- project governance and reporting includes preparing regular reports on progress, costs, deadlines, risks, quality and performance, maintaining reliable documentation and presenting updates to management and relevant stakeholders.
- Coordinating the commissioning and transfer of infrastructure includes verifying the completion of work and defects, the availability of certificates, test results, "as- built " plans and other required documents, as well as coordinating the formal transfer of infrastructure to the Operations and/or Maintenance teams and capitalizing on lessons learned.
Job requirements.
Qualifications and experience.
- Hold an Engineering degree in Civil Engineering, Mining Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management or in an equivalent engineering discipline.
- Registration with a professional engineering order or a relevant professional certification is an asset.
- Have a minimum of seven (7) years of relevant professional experience in the mining sector, major civil infrastructure projects, mine tailings storage facilities or large-scale construction projects.
- Have at least four (4) years of experience in a supervisory or management role.
- Demonstrate proven experience in managing large-scale infrastructure or construction projects.
- Possess significant experience in TSF infrastructure, earthworks, water management, pipelines, dams, roads or related mining infrastructure.
- Have experience in managing entrepreneurs and multidisciplinary project teams.
- Experience in project planning, cost control, scheduling, quality management and supervision of work execution.
- Professional experience in a mining environment is a significant asset.
Technical skills.
- Have a good understanding of the infrastructure and construction work related to Tailings Storage Facilities (TSF).
- Have a good knowledge of civil engineering works, earthworks, embankment construction and hydraulic infrastructure.
- Have a good knowledge of water management systems, tailings and water pipelines and associated infrastructure.
- Having a good knowledge of dam infrastructure, dikes, embankments, spillways and diversion structures.
- Mastering the principles of construction project management, including planning, scheduling and cost control.
- Have a good ability to review engineering plans, technical specifications, execution methods and construction documents.
- Mastering the management and monitoring of contractors and subcontractors.
- Have a good understanding of the assurance and quality control systems applicable to construction work.
- Mastering the principles of risk management and HSE requirements applicable to mining construction projects.
- Having a good understanding of the processes for commissioning, receiving and transferring infrastructure.
- Possess a good ability to prepare and present technical reports and project performance reports.
- Having a good understanding of mining standards, regulatory requirements and best practices applicable to TSF infrastructure.
