Job Description

The Supervisor – TSF Water & Tailing (Millwright) is responsible for supporting the TSF Water Management Superintendent in the safe, reliable and efficient operation, monitoring, maintenance and continuous improvement of all mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and control systems associated with the Tailings Storage Facility (TSF) water management infrastructure.

The incumbent is accountable for ensuring the availability, reliability and performance of reclaim water systems, decant facilities, transfer pumps, pipelines, electrical distribution systems, instrumentation, telemetry and monitoring equipment.

The role provides frontline technical support for TSF water management activities, coordinates maintenance contractors, conducts operational inspections, and promotes a strong safety culture through visible leadership while ensuring compliance with the TSF Operations, Maintenance and Surveillance (OMS) Manual, site water management requirements, environmental obligations and dam safety standards.

The incumbent will be responsible for, among other duties, the following (non-exhaustive):

TSF Water Management Operations

• • Support the implementation of the TSF water management strategy and daily operational plans.
  • Operate, monitor, and maintain water recovery systems, pumping stations, decant systems, transfer pumps, and associated infrastructure.
  • Monitor water levels, freeboard, and the site water balance to ensure safe and compliant operations.
  • Support water management activities during heavy rainfall events and emergency situations.
  • Monitor system performance, identify operational risks, and implement actions arising from inspections, audits, and dam safety assessments.

Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation & Control Maintenance

• • Execute preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance programs for TSF water management infrastructure.
  • Diagnose, repair, and maintain pumps, motors, pipelines, valves, actuators, drive systems, Motor Control Centres (MCCs), Variable Speed Drives (VSDs), transformers, and associated equipment.
  • Maintain instrumentation, telemetry, monitoring systems, SCADA, and automated control systems.
  • Monitor equipment condition, perform troubleshooting, maintain maintenance records, and implement reliability improvement initiatives.
  • Manage critical spare parts and participate in root cause failure analyses to implement corrective actions.

TSF Monitoring

• • Conduct routine inspections of water management infrastructure in accordance with the TSF Operations, Maintenance and Surveillance (OMS) Manual.
  • Inspect pumping stations, decant facilities, pipelines, seepage recovery systems, return water ponds, and related infrastructure.
  • Identify, report, and assist in correcting defects that may impact safety, operational performance, or environmental compliance.
  • Collect, record, and report monitoring data while supporting the implementation of dam safety recommendations.

Contractor Coordination

• • Coordinate and supervise contractors carrying out maintenance and repair activities.
  • Plan work and ensure compliance with safety, environmental, permit-to-work, and quality requirements.
  • Verify the quality and compliance of completed work and contribute to continuous improvement of contractor performance.

Safety Leadership

• • Promote a strong safety culture through visible field leadership.
  • Conduct Planned Task Observations (PTOs), Visible Felt Leadership (VFL) activities, safety talks, risk assessments, and participate in incident investigations.
  • Ensure compliance with Life-Saving Rules, Critical Controls, and site HSE standards.

Environmental Compliance

• • Ensure TSF water management activities comply with environmental permits, regulatory requirements, company procedures, the TSF OMS Manual, and the Global Industry Standard on Tailings Management (GISTM).
  • Participate in environmental monitoring, audits, and implementation of corrective actions.

Emergency Preparedness & Response

• • Participate in TSF emergency preparedness and response activities.
  • Support emergency pumping operations, water diversion activities, and emergency response drills.
  • Ensure emergency equipment is available and maintained in operational condition.

Reporting & Administration

• • Prepare operational and maintenance reports covering equipment performance, water management activities, inspections, contractor activities, and safety performance.
  • Maintain accurate records of inspections, maintenance activities, equipment calibrations, monitoring data, technical investigations, and corrective actions.

Job Requirements 

Qualifications et Experience

• • Bachelor's degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • A recognized Millwright Trade Certificate or equivalent qualification is an added advantage.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS), preferably SAP.
  • Electrical Switching or Electrical Authorization certification is an advantage.
  • Minimum of five (5) years' post-qualification experience in mining, mineral processing or heavy industrial operations.
  • Proven experience in pumping systems, water transfer systems and rotating equipment.
  • Experience in electrical fault diagnosis, motor control systems and instrumentation maintenance (experience with ABB Variable Speed Drives is advantageous).
  • Experience coordinating contractors and maintenance service providers.
  • Experience with Tailings Storage Facilities (TSFs), water management systems or dam infrastructure is an advantage.
