Job Description

 

Under the direct supervision of the General Manager – Capital projects, the incumbent is accountable for the end-to-end delivery of capital projects, covering both project development (studies) and execution phases, ensuring delivery to approved scope, schedule, and cost. The role leads multidisciplinary teams to progress projects from concept and feasibility through construction, commissioning, and handover, with a strong focus on safety, technical integrity, value optimization, and risk management.

 

 

He/She will have, among other things, the following responsibilities (non-exhaustive):

 

1. Project Development (Studies Phase)

  • Lead and manage project studies across all stages (Concept, Pre-Feasibility, Feasibility, and Definition).
  • Ensure development of robust project scopes, design criteria, and technical solutions aligned to business objectives.
  • Drive value engineering, trade-off studies, and option selection to optimise capital efficiency and operability.
  • Coordinate internal and external stakeholders, including engineering consultants and subject matter experts.
  • Ensure delivery of quality study deliverables including cost estimates, schedules, risk assessments, and execution strategies.
  • Support investment approval processes through preparation of business cases and decision documentation.

 

2. Project Execution (Delivery Phase)

  • Lead execution through engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and handover.
  • Ensure compliance with company standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage EPCM/EPC contractors and suppliers.
  • Drive adherence to approved scope, schedule, and cost baselines.
  • Oversee commissioning and transition to operations.

 

3. Project Controls & Governance

  • Maintain project controls systems including scheduling, cost control, and reporting.
  • Monitor performance and ensure timely reporting.
  • Identify and mitigate risks and opportunities.
  • Ensure compliance with governance frameworks.

 

4. Safety, Health, Environment & Community (SHEC)

  • Champion a strong safety culture and ensure zero harm objective.
  • Ensure compliance with SHE standards and legal requirements.
  • Promote sustainable project execution.

 

5. Stakeholder & Interface Management

  • Act as primary interface between technical, operational, and commercial teams.
  • Manage relationships with stakeholders, contractors, and partners.
  • Ensure alignment with site operations.

 

6. Leadership & Team Management

  • Lead and develop a multidisciplinary project team.
  • Foster collaboration and accountability.
  • Provide guidance to team members and contractors.

 

 

 

Job Requirements

 

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering. Project Management qualification is advantageous.
  • 10–15 years in capital projects, with experience in studies and execution, preferably in mineral processing plants.
  • Working with the highest safety and environmental standards.
  • Solid appreciation of risk management strategy and quality management methods and practices.
  • Working knowledge of SAP; MS Project and computer literacy with willingness to learn new computer skills.
