Main objectives of the position

 

Under the direct supervision of the Hydrogeology Supervisor, the Hydrogeology Technician is responsible for carrying out daily hydrogeological monitoring activities in the open pit mine. The incumbent supports the safe and efficient operation of the dewatering system by conducting field inspections, collecting hydrogeological data, monitoring instrumentation, and ensuring accurate reporting to support geotechnical and mining operations.

 

Minimum qualification

 

  • Secondary School Diploma (High School Certificate).
  • A technical qualification in Geology, Hydrogeology, Mining, or a related field will be an added advantage.

 

Required Experience

  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience, preferably in open pit mining operations.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Experience in hydrogeological monitoring, mine dewatering, or geotechnical operations is an advantage.
  • Experience working in a mining environment and complying with mine safety standards.

 

Required skills

 

  • Basic knowledge of hydrogeology and mine dewatering systems.
  • Ability to operate hydrogeological and geological monitoring instruments.
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to accurately collect, record, and report field data.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Good organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Physically fit and able to work in demanding field conditions.
  • Methodical, organized, reliable, and safety conscious.
  • Ability to work under pressure while maintaining high attention to detail.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Conduct daily inspections of hydrogeological installations and dewatering system components within the open pit mine.
  • Monitor and record readings from hydrogeological monitoring instruments and equipment.
  • Collect, verify, and update hydrogeological field data for inclusion in the mine database.
  • Support the implementation and maintenance of mine dewatering activities.
  • Identify and promptly report abnormalities, hazards, or equipment failures affecting hydrogeological operations.
  • Prepare and submit accurate field reports to the Open Pit Hydrogeology Supervisor.
  • Collaborate with consultants and technical specialists during hydrogeological investigations and monitoring activities.
  • Ensure compliance with site safety procedures, environmental standards, and operational requirements.
  • Maintain hydrogeological equipment and monitoring tools in good working condition.
  • Carry out any other duties assigned by the supervisor within the scope of the position.
  • Comply with Glencore's environmental management requirements and procedures as well as MUMI SARL's environmental policy.
