Kamoto Copper Company Société Anonyme, KCC SA in acronym, is a Congolese company operating in Kolwezi, capital of the province of Lualaba, in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

KCC SA exploits copper and cobalt ores on a large scale. It includes an underground mine, open-pit mines and integrated metallurgical facilities. The operation has one of the largest copper reserves in the world, with a current life of over 25 years.

Under the direct supervision of the Chief Technical Officer, the role of the incumbent will be to develop, lead and ensure the implementation of the underground mining operations expansion program, ensuring safe, efficient execution and in line with the company's strategic objectives. He/She will lead the technical studies, the development of new underground infrastructures as well as the coordination between the technical and operational teams and external partners. The position contributes directly to the sustainability of mining assets by ensuring the sustainable expansion of operations while meeting health, safety, environment, governance, cost control and continuous improvement requirements.

 

He/She will have, among others, the following responsibilities (non-exhaustive):

 

  • Lead the underground mining expansion program. This includes planning, coordinating and overseeing the entire expansion program, from feasibility studies to execution, to ensure that technical, operational, financial, and established deadlines are met.
  • Supervise the technical studies and development of new underground infrastructure. This includes leading pre-feasibility and feasibility studies, designing new underground accesses, developing double declines as well as infrastructure required to expand operations.
  • Coordinate internal stakeholders and external partners. This includes working with technical teams, mining operations, commercial departments, supply chain and contracting companies to ensure a smooth and integrated execution of the expansion project.
  • Ensure integration between open pit and underground operations. This includes managing the operational interfaces between open pit mining operations and underground working, promoting ongoing coordination with the teams involved to ensure the continuity and safety of operations.
  • To guarantee the highest standards in terms of health, safety, environment and risk management. This includes identifying, assessing, and proactively controlling risks related to the expansion program, in collaboration with HSEC teams, while ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, critical controls, and company policies.
  • Ensure the financial management and control of the costs of the program. This includes the preparation of budgets, financial forecasting, expenditure monitoring, variance analysis as well as the implementation of measures to ensure the optimal use of resources in accordance with financial governance requirements.
  • Lead, develop and mobilize multidisciplinary teams. This includes coaching technical teams, project managers and contractors, promoting a high-performance culture, developing skills as well as clearly communicating the organisation's goals and priorities.
  • Develop a culture of operational excellence and continuous improvement. This includes anticipating technical and operational challenges, implementing innovative solutions, optimizing processes as well as monitoring performance in order to sustainably improve the department's results.
  • Implement technical and infrastructure risk management strategies. This includes assessing existing infrastructure, developing maintenance and risk mitigation plans, and putting in place control mechanisms to ensure the reliability and availability of facilities.
  • Develop and deploy the department's development strategy. This includes defining the department's vision, strategic plans and priorities in line with the lifecycle of mining assets, while integrating the principles of diversity, equity, inclusion and sustainability into day-to-day operations.

 

Job Requirements

 

Qualifications and Experience

 

  • The candidate must hold a university degree or a higher national diploma in Mining Engineering or an equivalent discipline.
  • Recognized experience in the execution of international mining projects is required.
  • The position requires a minimum of fifteen (15) years of experience in underground mining operations, including at least ten (10) years in management or executive positions.
  • Demonstrated practical experience is expected in the following areas:
  • development of underground hard rock mines;
  • rapid development of underground structures;
  • development of access ramps (decline development);
  • Greenfield and Brownfield expansion projects;
  • méthodes d'exploitation Board and Pillar et Long Hole Stoping ;
  • setting up and managing underground mining contracts;
  • Management of complex expansion projects involving multiple stakeholders.

Technical skills.

 

  • Excellent knowledge of underground hard rock mining methods.
  • Mastery of pre-feasibility (PFS) and feasibility (FS) studies.
  • Expertise in managing large-scale mining programs and projects.
  • Solid knowledge of Decline Development techniques.
  • Mastery of Board and Pillar and Long Hole Stopping methods.
  • Good understanding of the Greenfield and Brownfield projects.
  • Mastery of mine planning and underground infrastructure development.
  • In-depth knowledge of health, safety, environmental and risk management standards in the mining industry.
  • Ability to identify, analyze and manage technical and operational risks.
  • Mastery of budgeting processes, financial forecasting and cost control.
  • Ability to analyze technical and financial data to support decision-making.
  • Experience in managing mining contractors and contracts.
  • Good knowledge of corporate governance and compliance practices.
  • Proficiency in project management and planning tools.
  • Excellent leadership skills in multidisciplinary teams.
