Main Objectives of the Position

 

Reporting directly to the General Manager - Projects, the Construction Manager is responsible for leading and managing all construction activities associated with the Sulfide Project at Mutanda Mining.

 

The incumbent will oversee the planning, coordination, execution, monitoring, and successful delivery of construction works while ensuring compliance with safety, environmental, quality, budget, and schedule requirements. This role is instrumental in delivering a world-class mining infrastructure through effective leadership of multidisciplinary teams, contractors, consultants, and stakeholders in accordance with MUMI and Glencore standards.

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mining Engineering, Metallurgy, or an equivalent Engineering discipline.
  • Postgraduate qualification in Project Management, MBA, PMP, or equivalent certification is highly desirable.
  • Advanced knowledge of construction management methodologies and project controls.
  • Proficiency in Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Knowledge of SAP or equivalent ERP systems is an advantage.

 

Required Experience

 

  • Minimum 10 years of proven experience as a Construction Manager within mining, heavy industrial, or major infrastructure projects.
  • Extensive experience delivering EPCM or EPC construction projects.
  • Strong knowledge of construction methodologies, project management principles, and contract administration.
  • Demonstrated experience managing large multidisciplinary construction teams.
  • Experience managing contractors and subcontractors on complex construction sites.
  • Strong understanding of DRC construction legislation and regulatory requirements is an advantage.
  • Proven experience managing HSEC requirements on major industrial construction projects.

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Lead the execution of all construction activities for the Sulfide Project.
  • Develop and implement construction execution strategies and readiness plans.
  • Manage Engineering, Procurement and Construction Management (EPCM) contractors and construction contractors.
  • Coordinate engineering, procurement, logistics, construction, commissioning, and project handover activities.
  • Oversee accommodation camp construction, bulk earthworks, and early works.
  • Manage project budgets, schedules, procurement activities, and contractor performance.
  • Ensure compliance with Glencore's Goal Zero philosophy and all HSEC standards.
  • Lead risk assessments, construction safety planning, and environmental compliance activities.
  • Monitor project progress and provide executive reporting on schedule, cost, quality, and risks.
  • Manage construction interfaces between internal departments and external stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with DRC legislation, corporate governance, and construction standards.
  • Promote continuous improvement, lessons learned, and construction best practices.
  • Comply with Glencore’s environmental management requirements and procedures as well as MUMI SARL’s environmental policy.
