Kamoto Copper Company Société Anonyme, KCC SA in acronym, is a Congolese company operating in Kolwezi, capital of the province of Lualaba, in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Job Description

 

Under the direct supervision of the General Manager Health, Safety & Environment, the incumbent is responsible to provide strategic leadership for environmental management across Kamoto Copper Company and is accountable for reducing environmental risks and liabilities, improving environmental performance, and protecting the operation's license to operate. The role leads the development and implementation of environmental strategies, management systems, risk reduction initiatives, and improvement programs addressing both operational impacts and legacy environmental issues.

 

He/She will have, among other things, the following responsibilities (non-exhaustive):

 

  • Develop and implement the site's environmental strategy, objectives and improvement plans to reduce environmental risks, improve performance, and support sustainable business outcomes.
  • Lead the identification, assessment and management of material environmental risks, ensuring effective controls are established, implemented and verified.
  • Drive continuous improvement in environmental performance through the development and execution of targeted initiatives addressing water management, air emissions, waste management, land disturbance, rehabilitation, biodiversity and contamination risks.
  • Lead the management of legacy environmental liabilities and remediation programs, ensuring risks are understood, prioritized and systematically reduced.
  • Ensure compliance with all environmental legal, permit, regulatory and corporate requirements and proactively manage actions arising from inspections, audits and regulatory reviews.
  • Provide leadership and technical oversight of environmental monitoring programs, ensuring data quality, trend analysis, transparent reporting and timely response to emerging risks.
  • Lead environmental incident prevention, investigation and corrective action processes to identify root causes and implement sustainable solutions that prevent recurrence.
  • Build strong relationships with regulators, government authorities, communities and other external stakeholders, representing the company on environmental matters and supporting the maintenance of its license to operate.
  • Ensure environmental considerations are integrated into operational planning, business decisions, capital projects, closure planning and change management processes.
  • Develop and maintain environmental management systems, standards, procedures and critical control frameworks that support effective risk management and operational excellence.
  • Lead environmental assurance activities, including inspections, compliance reviews and management reviews, ensuring timely closure of findings and continuous improvement.
  • Establish, monitor and report environmental performance indicators, providing regular insights and recommendations to site leadership and corporate management.
  • Manage environmental permitting processes and regulatory submissions to support current operations and future business requirements.
  • Develop, lead and mentor the environmental team, build technical capability, accountability and a proactive environmental culture across the operation.
  • Manage the environmental budget and resources to ensure the efficient delivery of environmental programs, projects and compliance obligations.
  • Promote visible environmental leadership across the operation by influencing leaders, employees and contractors to take ownership of environmental performance and risk management.

 

 

Job Requirements

 

Qualifications and Experience

 

  • University degree in Environmental Science, Environmental management, Environmental Engineering or a related field or and substantial professional experience in the mining industry
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in Environmental management, within the mining industry
  • Experience in the implementation of environmental management systems
  • Trained in ISO 140001, environmental legislation and environmental auditing
