Kamoto Copper Company Société Anonyme, KCC SA in acronym, is a Congolese company operating in Kolwezi, capital of the province of Lualaba, in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
KCC SA exploits copper and cobalt ores on a large scale. It includes an underground mine, open-pit mines and integrated metallurgical facilities. The operation has one of the largest copper reserves in the world, with a current life of over 25 years.

Job Description
Under the direct supervision of the General Manager Health, Safety & Environment, the incumbent is responsible for leading a team that creates value by enabling health and safety in the Mining Department by:
• Creating foresight about the changing levels of risk and facilitating action before people are harmed.
• Supporting line management to implement and improve health and safety processes and practices that meet organizational safety objectives.
He/She will have, among other things, the following responsibilities (non-exhaustive):
- Supporting COO and line management to implement and improve health and safety processes and practices that deliver organizational objectives
- Support the development and implementation of the Health and Safety strategy.
- Identify opportunities and make recommendations to build capacity that enables operations to:
- work in accordance with the Health and Safety management standards
- monitor and address drift from the Health and Safety management standards
- sustainably reduce material risk and proactively monitor effectiveness of the controls
- improve work processes that impact the safety of work (physical and psychosocial)
- Facilitate the development and execution of business wide safety improvement initiatives in support of the business plan
- Lead and improve the safety leadership improvement program within Mining
- Support embedding of Safety culture.
- Lead the development and improvement of Health and Safety Standards, Systems and Processes
- Facilitate the development of safety training and communication material in support of objectives
- Provide safety leadership support and evidence-based advice to operations teams
- Proactively improve contractor safety management and engagement in Mining.
- Creating foresight about the changing levels of risk and facilitating action before harm occurs
- Establish systems to monitor and improve compliance to standards and recommend actions to improve
- Anticipate future scenarios and facilitate management of the related health and safety risks
- Provide high quality, data driven safety performance reports and insights
- Facilitate major incident investigations and other learning processes.
- Provide quality assurance, control and improvement of incident investigations and other learning processes
- Facilitate systems to improve the quality and rapid execution of actions from audits, incident investigations and other safety improvement processes.
- Single point accountability for the overall output and performance of the health and safety team reporting to the role
- Select, build, develop, coach and lead a team of Health and safety advisors and superintendents
- Establish and improve team processes related to planning work, assigning tasks, monitoring progress and managing performance
- Coach and develop local Health and safety talent to senior leaders within the business.
- Budget and resource management
- Manage expenditure in accordance with approved budget
- Manage contracts in line with KCC contract and commercial requirements
- Oversee the implementation of Health and safety improvement projects and initiatives.
- Manage key internal and external stakeholder relationships relevant to the role
- Liaise with government, community and industry stakeholders as required, in line with KCC standards and Glencore compliance requirements
- Establish and maintain strong and productive working relationships with internal customers and stakeholders.
Job Requirements
Qualifications and Experience
- A tertiary qualification in Safety, Health, Risk, Engineering or related discipline
- At least 10 years in Health and Safety with at least 5 years being spent on large projects in the mining or processing industry.
- Expatriate experience working in Africa would be a strong advantage
- Lead Auditing Training
- Incident Investigation Training – either ICAM, TapRoot, Essential Factors, Blueline
- Basic French.
