The Copper Smelter and Mount Isa Community
The Mount Isa Copper Smelter is one of two copper smelters in Australia. We process over 1,000,000 tonnes of copper concentrate per year from our own mines and from sources all over the country and globe. The Role
We have a residential position available within our Electrical Maintenance team. This exciting opportunity will see you join the Electrical leadership group reporting to the Electrical Superintendent. In this role you will be required to effectively co-ordinate and supervise a team of electrical personnel carrying out maintenance, calibrations, projects and minor installation work within the Copper Smelter and Environmental assets.
As the person to control electrical works, you will be responsible for ensuring that electrical and instrumentation maintenance tasks are carried out in a safe and timely manner.  

Your responsibilities would include among other things:
  • Planning and controlling shift maintenance operations to optimise the use of all available resources.
  • Planning and Co-ordinating Tech Instrument team
  • Provide support to the Electrical Maintenance teams
  • Completing Operational / Capital electrical projects
  • Provide supervision for electrical contractors
  • Management of your crew’s performance
  • Managing shutdown work
  • Conducting regular compliance audits and workplace inspections
  • Building and maintaining an effective team through coaching and personnel role modelling
  • Electrical safety & statutory compliance
  • Environmental maintenance targets and compliance
  • Identifying and completing electrical continuous improvement projects
  • Supporting supervisors and the management team to achieve maintenance and production targets

What we need from you: 
  • Trade qualification – Electrician with an equivalent Queensland Electrical Mechanic Licence
  • Post trade experience in an operating fixed plant process environment or similar (minimum of 5 years)
  • Intermediate level of Microsoft Office Suite including Project, Excel (including Excel VBA), and Word
  • Safety as a core personal value
  • Ability to work within an integrated & diverse team with challenging deadlines
  • Ability to run contracting teams and small projects
  • The ability to make decisions, work to deadlines, high level of work quality, exceptional communication skills (both oral and written) and strive for a continuous improvement
  • Highly organised with effective time management skills to prioritise work in a fast-paced environment.
Nice to Have’s:
  • Knowledge in Yokogawa DCS programming & PLC programming
  • Environmental instrumentation experience – Fixed SO2, dust & XACT analysers
  • Prior experience in similar role – Fixed plant maintenance
  • Shift breakdown experience
  • S1, S2, S3 qualifications
  • SAP experience
