Kamoto Copper Company Société Anonyme, KCC SA in acronym, is a Congolese company operating in Kolwezi, capital of the province of Lualaba, in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Under the supervision of the Manager – Geotechnical and Hydrogeology, the role of the incumbent will be to supervise and coordinate electrical maintenance activities related to fans and compressors in underground mining environments. He/she will ensure the availability, reliability and performance of this critical equipment for ventilation and compressed air. The position involves strict compliance with HSE standards, energy optimization and business continuity. The incumbent will also manage the technical teams and implement maintenance strategies. He/she will actively contribute to the continuous improvement and overall performance of the facilities.

 

He/She will have, among others, the following essential functions (non-exhaustive):

 

  • Ensure the management of geotechnical risks. This includes identifying, assessing and mitigating risks related to geotechnical conditions in the underground environment, as well as implementing critical controls and preventive measures to ensure the safety of people, equipment and infrastructure.
  • Supervise geotechnical engineering activities. This includes coordinating engineers, technicians and associated teams, allocating resources, as well as monitoring the performance of geotechnical activities in accordance with mine plans and operational objectives.
  • Provide technical support to mining operations. This includes the integration of geotechnical considerations into production plans, mining sequences, mine designs, and development and rehabilitation activities.
  • Develop and implement geotechnical strategies. This includes defining strategies to optimize productivity, improve excavation stability, and align technical resources with the mine's short-, medium- and long-term goals.
  • Carry out and manage geotechnical studies. This includes planning, carrying out or supervising technical studies, analysing geotechnical data and making recommendations to solve operational problems.
  • Ensure the monitoring and reporting of geotechnical performance. This includes reporting, analyzing deviations from plans, and proposing and following up on necessary corrective actions.
  • Control the quality of work and support systems. This includes inspecting underground excavations, verifying the compliance of support systems, and implementing corrective actions in the event of non-compliance.
  • Manage budgets and optimize costs. This includes tracking expenses, analyzing budget variances, identifying cost-saving opportunities, and optimizing resource utilization.
  • Promote continuous improvement and innovation. This includes analyzing production data, implementing practices such as Short Interval Control, and identifying opportunities to improve performance, safety, and costs.
  • Develop skills and supervise teams. This includes mentoring, training, performance evaluation, as well as fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and excellence within teams.

Job Requirements

 

Qualifications and experience.

 

  • University degree in geotechnics, geology, mining engineering or civil engineering from a recognized institution
  • Minimum of fifteen (15) years of experience in geotechnical engineering, ideally in underground hard rock mines (copper, cobalt or similar)
  • International experience strongly desired
  • Proven experience in managing and developing technical teams
  • Strong experience in operational support and applied geotechnical engineering in an underground mining environment
  • Medical fitness to work in an underground environment
  • Valid driver's license

 

Technical skills

 

  • Master the principles and practices of geotechnical engineering in underground mines
  • Analyze and interpret complex geotechnical data
  • Design and optimize support systems and underground infrastructure

Apply best practices in Ground Control Management Plan (GCMP)

  • Use geotechnical monitoring tools and technologies (seismic, deformation, etc.)
  • Integrating geotechnical considerations into mine planning

Translating technical concepts into practical operational solutions

  • Manage technical projects and coordinate multidisciplinary studies
