Main objectives of the position

 

Under the direct supervision of the Occupational Hygienist, the Occupational Hygiene Assistant is responsible for executing occupational hygiene monitoring activities, including risk assessments, inspections, surveys, and investigations.

 

The role ensures the effective implementation of the occupational hygiene monitoring programme in line with the company’s strategic plan and performance indicators. The incumbent will conduct exposure measurements, support data collection and analysis, and contribute to the continuous improvement of occupational health standards across mining operations.

 

Minimum qualification

 

Certification/registration with a recognized Occupational Hygiene professional body as an Occupational Hygiene Assistant.

Diploma or Degree in Occupational Hygiene, Environmental Health, or a related scientific discipline is advantageous.

 

Required Experience

 

Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in a Health & Safety environment or industry.

At least one (1) year of experience in Occupational Hygiene will be an advantage.

 

Required skills

 

Knowledge of Occupational Hygiene principles, hazards, and monitoring techniques.

Basic scientific reporting and data interpretation skills.

Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.

Good communication skills in English; French is an advantage.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Ability to work with occupational hygiene equipment (dust pumps, gas monitors, noise dosimeters, calibrators, etc.).

Good planning and organizational skills.

Ability to work independently in field conditions with limited supervision.

Valid manual driver’s license and ability to operate a manual vehicle.

Adaptability and resilience in a dynamic operational environment.

 

 Key Responsibilities

 

Conduct occupational hygiene risk assessments, inspections, investigations, and exposure surveys.

Perform personal exposure monitoring in line with the company monitoring programme and deadlines.

Conduct pre-use inspections, calibration, and maintenance of sampling and monitoring equipment.

Issue and collect sampling equipment for employee exposure monitoring at shift start and end.

Perform area-based hygiene surveys, including noise, dust, vibration, illumination, and ergonomic assessments.

Collect, analyze, and record occupational hygiene data in accordance with procedures and KPIs.

Compile weekly and monthly reports on monitoring activities, results, and performance indicators.

Maintain accurate registers of equipment, samples, and calibration records.

Ensure timely dispatch of equipment for calibration and maintenance.

Support audits and participate in compliance verification activities.

Conduct awareness sessions and promote occupational hygiene practices among employees.

Assist in environmental and workplace monitoring activities using scientific instruments.

Ensure proper handling, storage, and maintenance of occupational hygiene equipment.

Support continuous improvement initiatives within the occupational hygiene programme.

Comply with Glencore’s environmental management requirements and procedures, as well as MUMI SARL’s environmental policy.
