Main objectives of the position
Under the direct supervision of the Mining Production Superintendent, the Excavator Operators will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of hydraulic excavators to support open-pit mining production activities.
The incumbent ensures efficient truck loading, proper material handling, and compliance with operational plans to maintain continuous ore supply to the processing plant. He/She contributes directly to achieving production targets by optimizing loading cycles, maintaining equipment integrity, and coordinating effectively with haul truck operators and dispatch systems.
Minimum qualification
High School Diploma or equivalent qualification.
Certification or competency assessment in heavy equipment operation.
Valid national driver’s license (where required).
Required Experience
Minimum of three (3) years of proven experience operating hydraulic excavators in open-pit mining or large-scale earthmoving operations.
Experience operating large hydraulic excavators such as CAT 6030 or CAT 6015 is highly desirable.
Proven experience in truck loading within a mining production environment.
Required skills
Strong knowledge of mining safety procedures and hazard identification.
Ability to use two-way radio communication systems and follow mining communication protocols.
Understanding of mining digital technologies, including fleet management systems.
Safe and efficient operation of hydraulic excavators.
Awareness of bench stability and safe excavation practices.
Basic understanding of onboard safety and fleet systems (Modular, Provision, OEA, CAS).
Key Responsibilities
Load haul trucks with ore or waste in accordance with mine production plans and dispatch instructions.
Maintain continuous and efficient loading cycles to support overall mine production targets.
Ensure proper material separation between ore and waste in line with grade control and planning requirements.
Monitor loading conditions and report material contamination, ground issues, or operational disruptions.
Ensure safe truck positioning and apply proper bucket loading techniques to maximize productivity.
Perform excavation, bench shaping, and ground preparation activities.
Maintain safe digging practices and ground control during excavation.
Ensure safe interaction between excavators and haul trucks at all times.
Conduct regular inspections to prevent fuel, oil, or hydraulic fluid leaks.
Report and address any leaks or spills immediately.
Refuel equipment only in designated areas and in accordance with procedures.
Comply with environmental management requirements and procedures of Glencore, as well as MUMI SARL’s environmental policy.
