Job description.

 

Under the direct supervision of the KTC Ore Transfer Team Leader, the incumbent will be primarily responsible for the safe and efficient operation of various types of heavy mining equipment to support ore handling operations. They will ensure production targets are met while strictly adhering to health, safety, and environmental (HSE) guidelines, and will guarantee the proper functioning of equipment through regular inspections. The incumbent will also be responsible for reporting any anomalies and contributing to maintaining a safe and efficient work environment.

 

His responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

 

•    Operate various heavy machinery, including hydraulic excavators, bulldozers, articulated dump trucks (ADTs), 777 trucks, front loaders and tanker trucks.
•    Carry out the loading, transport, unloading and storage of ores and waste.
•    Respect efficient cycle times and follow shipping instructions.

•    Adapt operating techniques according to pit conditions and operations. Carry out daily inspections and ensure that equipment is in good working order.

•    Identify and report mechanical defects or anomalies through appropriate systems (e.g., comply with all vital KCC HSE policies, procedures and safety rules).
•    Perform pre-operational inspections and complete the required checklists.
•    Identify hazards and take immediate corrective action, including applying the power to stop work when necessary.

•    Participate in safety meetings, safety talks and HSE initiatives (SAP notifications).
•    Achieve daily and team production targets (tonnage, cycle time, utilization).
•    Minimize operational delays and equipment downtime.

•    Use the equipment in a cost-effective and fuel-efficient manner.
 
Job requirements.


Qualifications and experience.

 

•    Possess a state diploma in electromechanics, or a 5-year certificate in electromechanics or an equivalent;
•    Have a formal certificate/attestation for driving heavy machinery;
•    Hold valid certifications or licenses for several types of mining equipment;

•    Have 2 to 3 years of experience in operating heavy machinery in open-pit mining ;
•    Experience in a large-scale mining operation is an asset;
•    To be able to express oneself clearly and correctly in French.

 

Technical skills.

 

•    Proficiency in operating several types of heavy mining equipment;
•    open-pit mining methods ;
•    Knowledge of material handling processes;

•    Basic concepts in heavy equipment mechanics;
•    Knowledge of dispatch systems is an asset;
•    Good understanding and application of HSE standards.
