Main objectives of the position

 

Under the direct supervision of the Mechanical Superintendent, the Coordinator – Fabrication/Boilermaking is responsible for leading safe and efficient fabrication activities, including construction, repair, and modification of processing, mining, and other MUMI equipment and structures. The role ensures compliance with engineering standards, minimizes downtime, and supports operational reliability through high-quality workmanship.

 

Minimum qualification

 

  • Recognized Trade Certificate in Boilermaking/Welding or equivalent (essential)
  • Diploma or Certificate in Mechanical or Structural Engineering (advantageous)

 

Required Experience

 

  • Minimum 5–7 years of experience in boilermaking/fabrication within mining, heavy industry, or construction environments
  • At least 2 years in a supervisory or coordination role

 

Required skills

 

  • Strong knowledge of welding processes (SMAW, MIG, TIG), cutting, forming, and fabrication techniques
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications
  • Knowledge of material take-offs and fabrication planning
  • Experience with maintenance planning tools or CMMS (SAP, Pronto, or equivalent)
  • Welding inspection certification or NDT knowledge is an advantage
  • Strong leadership and team coordination skills
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • High attention to detail and commitment to quality standards
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks under pressure
  • Valid driver’s license

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Plan, schedule, and prioritize fabrication jobs in line with maintenance/work order systems
  • Interpret drawings, BOMs, and technical specifications for accurate execution
  • Optimize material usage and monitor consumables
  • Supervise fabrication teams, allocate tasks, and monitor performance
  • Provide hands-on technical guidance and support team development
  • Perform quality control checks including weld inspections and coordinate NDT activities
  • Ensure compliance with engineering and quality standards
  • Identify improvement opportunities and eliminate fabrication bottlenecks
  • Maintain workshop standards (5S) and ensure proper equipment calibration
  • Lead safety initiatives including risk assessments, toolbox talks, and incident investigations
  • Ensure compliance with PPE, LOTO, hot work, confined space, and working-at-height procedures
  • Promote environmental compliance, including waste management and emission control
  • Maintain emergency preparedness and support safety audits and corrective actions
