Position Summary

Division: Glencore Argentina
Reports to: Country Risk Manager
Location: San Juan, Argentina

 

Main Objective of the Job

Support and strengthen risk management practices across Glencore Argentina’s projects and operations by facilitating the identification, assessment, mitigation, and monitoring of risks.

The role works closely with project and operational leadership teams to ensure that risks are systematically identified, evaluated, and managed using appropriate methodologies. The Risk Management Specialist supports the development and execution of the risk management plans for major projects such as El Pachón and MARA, facilitates multidisciplinary risk workshops, performs probabilistic modelling and scenario analysis, and produces strategic risk reporting.

The position plays a key role in anticipating critical events and promoting a proactive risk management culture across projects and operations.

 

Operating Context

The Risk Management Specialist operates within the Glencore Argentina organization and supports projects and operations across all stages of development and execution.

The role interacts closely with technical, engineering, planning, HSEC, and contractor teams, as well as with regional and corporate project teams. The specialist contributes to independent project reviews (IPR), financial risk assessments, and scenario analyses using quantitative modelling tools such as Monte Carlo simulations and Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) frameworks.

 

Qualifications

Education

  • Degree in Industrial Engineering, Mining Engineering, IT Engineering, Accounting, Business Administration, or Economics.
  • MBA or Master’s degree in Finance (desirable).
  • Diploma or specialization in Risk Management (desirable).
  • Professional certification in Risk Management (desirable).

Languages

  • Fluent Spanish.
  • Advanced English (written and spoken).

 

Experience

  • Approximately 5 or more years of experience in risk management within mining, infrastructure, or large-scale industrial projects.
  • Experience participating in or supporting Independent Project Reviews (IPR).
  • Strong experience in risk identification, evaluation, mitigation planning, and risk monitoring.
  • Experience supporting the implementation of integrated management systems and compliance frameworks.

 

Experience & Skills

  • Strong capability in facilitating multidisciplinary risk workshops.
  • Quantitative analysis skills, including statistical and financial modelling applied to project risk management.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to engage stakeholders across different organizational levels.
  • Data-driven decision-making and prioritization of mitigation actions based on quantitative analysis.
  • Critical and independent thinking with a focus on minimizing negative impacts to projects and operations.
  • Strong safety culture and proactive approach to identifying risks affecting people, assets, and operations.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams across technical, legal, compliance, and operational functions.

 

Key Accountabilities

  1. Maintain and update risk management plans for projects and operations in Argentina in alignment with corporate guidelines.
  2. Lead and facilitate risk identification, evaluation, and prioritization workshops involving multidisciplinary teams.
  3. Maintain and update project risk registers, incorporating new risks and monitoring mitigation plans.
  4. Perform quantitative risk assessments, including analysis of potential maximum loss scenarios.
  5. Develop probabilistic risk models (e.g., Monte Carlo simulations) to evaluate impacts on project schedule and cost.
  6. Identify and communicate potential “fatal flaws” that may affect project viability.
  7. Support the preparation of risk management budgets based on mitigation strategies and risk exposure analysis.
  8. Prepare and present periodic risk management reports to the Argentina CEO and leadership team.
  9. Promote a proactive risk management culture through training sessions, workshops, and internal engagement initiatives.
  10. Act as a technical reference in internal and external reviews, including audits and Independent Project Reviews (IPR).

Travel Requirements
