MRP - Senior Planner

Kamoto Copper Company Société Anonyme, KCC SA in acronym, is a Congolese company operating in Kolwezi, capital of the province of Lualaba, in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
KCC SA exploits copper and cobalt ores on a large scale. It includes an underground mine, open-pit mines and integrated metallurgical facilities. The operation has one of the largest copper reserves in the world, with a current life of over 25 years.

Under the direct supervision of the Superintendent - MRP, the incumbent is responsible for planning, scheduling inventory accuracy, creating and publishing purchase requests, reviewing variances, developing corrective measures, while understanding the impact of decisions on the business. This involves direct supervision of Inventory Planners - MRP and responsibility for coordinating the supply of materials to meet demand, communicating with the procurement team on business needs, and continuously improving operational processes.
His/Her responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
1. Improvements and processes
- Suggest changes in inventory management to respond to increases or decreases in demand.
- Propose continuous improvements in daily processes and tactical projects, including performing root cause analyses and implementing corrective measures to resolve issues across supply chain processes.
- Develop, optimize, and integrate detailed commercial calendars (supply plans, replenishment models) to achieve commercial objectives.
2. Stock level reviews
- Maintain a balance between service levels and inventory costs.
- Analyze excess inventory and obsolescence.
- Define and adjust inventory policies (ABC, safety stock).
- Calculate and recommend MRP planning parameters, reorder points, and order levels (min/max) based on forecasts, consumption history, demand projections, and lead times.
3. Replenishment
- Define and manage replenishment policies.
- Calculate and adjust safety stocks based on demand/lead time variability.
- Trigger supply orders according to MRP recommendations.
- Track supplier confirmations and adjust dates if necessary.
- Anticipate consumption variances and adjust order frequencies.
- Analyze variances between forecasts and actual consumption.
4. Compliance
- Ensure compliance with internal supply chain procedures and group standards.
- Ensure MRP processes comply with quality requirements.
- Ensure regulatory compliance for raw materials and components (traceability, documentation, certificates).
- Maintain data reliability in the ERP system (parameter audits, consistency of bills of materials).
- Monitor inventory at various storage locations.
- Review daily MRP operations, including inventory status, projected/actual surpluses, and inactive inventory.
5. Supervision
- Coordinating with other departments regarding production goals, timelines, requirements, etc.
- Ensuring the business has a steady flow of stock without overcapitalizing on materials.
6. Reporting
- Monitor key indicators: inventory turnover, service levels, backlog, and analyze variances between planned and actual results.
- Implement inventory reports and present suggestions for improvement to materials and supply chain management.
Job requirements
Qualifications and experience
- Hold a university degree in business, logistics, inventory management, or a related field.
- Have at least 5 to 7 years of professional experience in materials planning, inventory management, purchasing, or a similar position, preferably in a mining or heavy industry environment.
- Have solid hands-on experience in larger/more complex environments, with proven expertise in MRP systems, inventory optimization, stakeholder management, and mentoring/leadership experience.
- Have strong working knowledge of spare parts, material coding, and bills of materials.
Technical skills
- Be able to use advanced MS Excel functions (Power Query, pivot tables, complex formulas) and create analytical dashboards.
- Have practical knowledge of supply chain technologies (ERP, manufacturing systems, warehouse management systems).
- Experience in underground mining operations and copper processing would be preferable, including the management of critical spare parts for rotating equipment, conveyors, crushing and flotation facilities.
- Have a good understanding of Incoterms, risk analysis, and supplier deadline management.
- Be able to communicate in French and English, both verbally and in writing would be an advantage.
- Be able to manage operational and logistical emergencies.
