Kamoto Copper Company Société Anonyme, KCC SA in acronym, is a Congolese company operating in Kolwezi, capital of the province of Lualaba, in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Job Description.

 

Reporting directly to the General Manager , the successful candidate will be responsible for defining, leading, and ensuring the implementation of the mine site's HSE strategy (copper and cobalt), in alignment with Group standards and regulatory requirements. They will ensure the governance of major risks, legal compliance, and operational excellence of HSE systems to support safe and reliable production. The incumbent will foster a strong safety culture and integrated responsible environmental management within daily operations. They will anticipate emerging risks and ensure the effectiveness of critical controls. Finally, they will support operational leadership in the continuous improvement of HSE and sustainability performance.

 

 

He/She will have, among other things, the following responsibilities (non-exhaustive):

 

 

  • Define and deploy the site's HSE strategy: Define the HSE strategy aligned with Group requirements and operational priorities; this includes the development of measurable work plans, the integration of issues of biodiversity, water management, atmospheric emissions, decarbonization and responsible production, as well as the monitoring of performance indicators to ensure disciplined and effective implementation.
  • Ensuring the governance of major risks and critical controls : Establish and maintain a robust physical risk management system; this includes identifying major hazards, designing and verifying critical controls, using methodologies such as HAZOP and ICAM, and anticipating emerging risks before a serious incident occurs .
  • Ensuring regulatory and normative compliance : Ensuring compliance with national legislation and international standards (ICMM, IFC, Copper Mark, etc.); this includes preparing and coordinating regulatory inspections, internal and external audits, as well as continuously updating HSE procedures in accordance with legal developments and company guidelines.
  • Strengthen safety culture and visible leadership: Develop and promote a strong safety culture at all levels of the organization; this includes implementing visible leadership initiatives, strengthening manager accountability, improving the effectiveness of critical controls and overseeing high-risk activities, including those of contractors.
  • Oversee incident and investigation management: Ensure rigorous management of incidents and near misses; this includes overseeing reporting, conducting or validating thorough investigations, identifying systemic root causes, managing corrective action plans and sharing lessons learned to prevent recurrence.
  • Leading the preparation and management of emergency and crisis situations: Establishing and continuously improving emergency preparedness mechanisms; this includes developing and testing response plans, coordinating response teams, strengthening capacity to respond to high-impact scenarios, and ensuring organizational resilience.
  • Supporting operations and developing organizational capabilities: Supporting COOs and operational managers in integrating HSE systems into daily activities; this includes coaching leaders, implementing targeted training programs, developing internal skills and promoting well-being at work, including injury management and return to work.
  • Leveraging data and technology for HSE performance: Utilizing digital tools and advanced indicators to improve performance; this includes analyzing HSE data, producing accurate and influential reports for management, and using predictive analytics to guide strategic decisions.
  • Managing internal and external stakeholders: Ensuring effective communication with stakeholders; this includes collaboration with the Management Committee, GMs, Mining and Processing teams, Corporate, local authorities, regulators and neighbouring mining operations, through strategic meetings, HSE committees, audits, inspections, formal reports, workshops and crisis communications.

 

Job requirements

 

 

Qualifications and experience

 

 

  • Hold a university degree in Health, Safety and Environment, Risk Management or equivalent.
  • Have a minimum of 10 to 15 years of experience in HSE leadership roles.
  • Have at least 7 years of experience in the mining and mineral processing industry .
  • Having proven experience in major risk management and high-risk environments, underground mining, emergency management and health services is an asset.

 

Technical skills.

 

 

  • Develop and execute an HSE strategy aligned with business objectives.

  • HAZOP analyses and ICAM investigations .
  • Interpret and utilize advanced indicators and digital HSE systems.
  • Conduct audits and ensure regulatory compliance.

  • Translating technical concepts into concrete operational solutions.
