Main Objective of the Job
Provide senior cost control leadership for the El Pachón Project, ensuring effective budget control, cost forecasting and accuracy, commitment management, and cost reporting across all phases of the project lifecycle. The role supports disciplined project delivery by providing accurate, timely, and transparent cost information to enable informed decision-making.
Operating Context
The Lead Cost Controller operates within a large-scale copper development located in a remote, high-altitude Andean environment in San Juan, Argentina. The role is embedded within the El Pachón Project team and supports the project from studies through execution.
The position works closely with Project Management, Project Controls, Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Finance, and contractors to ensure cost performance is accurately tracked, forecast, and reported, reflecting project scope, execution strategy, contractual commitments, and site conditions.
Qualifications
- Tertiary qualification in Engineering, Finance, Quantity Surveying, Project Management, or a related discipline.
- Extensive experience in cost control within mining or heavy industrial projects.
- Strong understanding of project cost control, forecasting, and reporting practices.
- Fluent English and Spanish
Experience & Skills
- Extensive experience in cost control, forecasting, and budget management across study and execution phases.
- Strong capability in cost control systems and project controls tools (e.g. Ecosys, Prism, SAP, spreadsheets).
- Experience managing commitments, actuals, accruals, and change control.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to interpret cost trends, identify risks and opportunities, and support corrective actions.
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Structured, proactive, and improvement-oriented working style.
Key Accountabilities
- Develop, maintain, and control the project cost control framework for the El Pachón Project, including budgets, forecasts, and cost reports.
- Monitor and analyse project cost performance against approved budgets and forecasts, identifying trends, risks, and opportunities.
- Manage cost commitments, actuals, accruals, and change control to ensure accurate cost reporting.
- Prepare and maintain periodic cost forecasts and cash flow projections.
- Support the monthly project reporting cycle, providing clear cost performance analysis and narrative.
- Work closely with Procurement and Contract Management to ensure alignment between commitments, variations, and cost forecasts.
- Support Project Managers with cost-related inputs for decision-making and recovery planning.
- Participate in project reviews, audits, and assurance activities, providing cost control expertise.
- Capture and document lessons learned and support continuous improvement in cost control practices.
- Provide guidance and coaching to cost control team members and project stakeholders as required.

Travel Requirements
