Job description.
Under the direct supervision of the Milling Maintenance Manager, the incumbent will be responsible to lead and manage the electrical maintenance and reliability function for the entire concentrator (from Crushing to Refinery transfer), ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant operation of all electrical systems and equipment. The Electrical Superintendent provides strategic and technical leadership to the electrical team, supporting production targets while maintaining alignment with corporate standards, statutory regulations, and asset integrity objectives.
The role manages all electrical maintenance resources, planning, preparation, and execution of shutdowns with high standards of quality, safety, and compliance. It ensures the effective management of critical spares and consumables, and the integrity of maintenance data in the CMMS (SAP) system.
The position also provides support to the Crushing and Production sections for shared electrical infrastructure and maintains a dotted-line compliance relationship with the Electrical Compliance Manager to ensure alignment with governance frameworks and audit readiness.
He/She will have, among other things, the following essential functions (non-exhaustive):
- Manage and develop electrical and control system teams (supervisors, artisans, trainees).
- Ensure adherence to safety standards and company values.
- Conduct daily/weekly meetings and performance reviews.
- Oversee preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance of all electrical assets (Crushing, Milling, Flotation, Transfer).
- Coordinate shutdowns and critical interventions with production and mechanical teams.
- Ensure CMMS (SAP) work orders and backlog are properly managed.
- Ensure the effectiveness of strategies and standard works
- Implement work strategies in the control system
- Ensure electrical installations meet statutory and Glencore standards.
- Lead inspections, audits, and corrective actions with the Electrical Compliance Manager.
- Maintain safe isolation, lockout/tagout (LOTO), and permit-to-work processes
- Implement root cause analysis (RCA) and defect elimination for repeated equipment failures.
- Drive reliability programs and asset care improvement plans.
- Support implementation of predictive technologies and digital monitoring.
- Manage labor, contractors, and materials within approved budgets.
- Ensure availability of critical spares and consumables.
- Monitor expenditures and identify cost-saving opportunities.
- Support new project installations, upgrades, and OEM interfaces (ABB, Siemens, Schneider).
- Ensure proper commissioning, FAT/SAT, and documentation handover.
- Ensure accurate maintenance data in SAP and CMMS.
- Produce weekly and monthly reports for leadership review.
- Track KPIs and performance dashboards.
Job requirements.
Qualifications and experience.
- A bachelor’s degree or National Diploma in Electrical Engineering (Heavy Current) or equivalent qualification.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in electrical maintenance within a mining or heavy process plant,
- At least 3 years in a supervisory or superintendent role.
Technical Skills.
- Excellent understanding of HV/LV systems, MCCs, VSDs, PLCs, SCADA, and substations.
- Familiarity with ABB, Siemens, or Schneider systems and compliance with SANS/IEC standards.
- Familiarity with ABB VSD drive ACS6000
- Excellent understanding of process control with Siemens SCADA, ABB PLCs and controls in a mineral processing environment
- Experience with CMMS (preferably SAP PM), MS Office Suite, and reliability/KPI reporting tools.
- Strong planning, organizing, and project management skills.
- Effective communication and problem-solving abilities.
