Kamoto Copper Company Société Anonyme, KCC SA in acronym, is a Congolese company operating in Kolwezi, capital of the province of Lualaba, in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

KCC SA exploits copper and cobalt ores on a large scale. It includes an underground mine, open-pit mines and integrated metallurgical facilities. The operation has one of the largest copper reserves in the world, with a current life of over 25 years.

Under the direct supervision of the Survey Manager, the role of the incumbent will be to ensure the technical and operational management of all topography and topographic survey activities related to mining projects in an open-pit mine exploiting copper and cobalt. He/She will provide strategic support to mining operations, engineering and construction projects. The incumbent will ensure the production of reliable, accurate topographic data that complies with the company's standards. He/She will ensure the effective integration of topographic data into decision-making processes. The position requires strong technical expertise, strong leadership and a total commitment to safety.

 

He/She will have, among others, the following responsibilities (non-exhaustive):

 

·    Supervise surveying operations. This includes planning, organizing, and supervising topographic surveys for mining operations, engineering, and construction projects. This includes the allocation of human and material resources, the monitoring of fieldwork and the assurance of compliance with regulatory, mining and company standards.

·    Promote and enforce safety standards. This includes the implementation and promotion of the company's safety management system within all surveying activities. This includes developing, updating and disseminating standard operating procedures (SOPs), actively participating in safety inspections, incident investigations and continuous improvement initiatives.

·     Manage topographic and geospatial data. This includes the collection, processing, analysis and validation of data from ground and aerial topographic surveys. This includes the production of blueprints, schematics, numerical models, and tabular reports to support mining operations, construction projects, and engineering studies.

·    Ensure technical expertise and methodological compliance. This includes providing specialized technical support to surveying teams to ensure best practices and professional standards are applied. This includes control of reference networks, coordinate system management, datum transformations, and supervision of engineering topographic surveys.

·     Coordinate with operational teams and partners. This includes working closely with mining, engineering, and construction teams, as well as consultants and subcontractors. This includes the seamless integration of topographic data into multidisciplinary projects and ongoing support for the site's operational needs.

·    Supervise, train and develop surveying teams. This includes mentoring, training, and developing the technical and professional skills of surveying teams. This includes performance evaluation, promotion of good practices and capacity building to ensure the sustainability and performance of the topography function.

·       Ensure quality control of topographic work. This includes verifying the accuracy, completeness, and consistency of the topographic data produced. This includes setting up quality control mechanisms, auditing deliverables, and strict adherence to quality requirements and performance indicators (KPIs).

·      Produce and present topographic reports. This includes the preparation and presentation of topographic reports, maps, technical analyses and recommendations for management. This includes regular communication of the progress of activities, the risks identified and the results achieved.

·     Manage and optimize topographic technologies and equipment. This includes the use, maintenance and optimization of topographic survey equipment (total stations, GNSS, ground scanners, drones). This includes evaluating and integrating new technologies to improve the accuracy, efficiency, and productivity of surveying work.

·       Contribute to continuous improvement and innovation. This includes identifying opportunities for improvement of processes, working methods and topographic tools. This includes participating in innovation initiatives, adopting mining industry best practices, and supporting the digital transformation of surveying activities.

 

Job Requirements

 

Qualifications and Experience

 

  • University degree or technical degree in Mining Topography, Geomatics or related discipline.
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of experience in mining topography, engineering topography or project topography, ideally in open pit mining.
  • A professional certification (Registered Topographer / Surveyor / Mine Surveyor) is an advantage.
  • Proven experience in supervising and managing surveying teams.
  • Strong understanding of mining operations, development projects, and complex industrial environments.

Technical skills.

 

  • Master total stations (Leica, Trimble), GNSS systems, terrestrial scanners, laser technologies and precision leveling.
  • Use drones (UAVs) for aerial data acquisition; Drone pilot license desired.
  • Master software: Deswik Suite, Trimble Business Center, DJI Terra, AutoCAD/Civil 3D, Rimining, Emesent Aura, Microsoft Office.
  • Have strong skills in topographic data post-processing, coordinate system management and control network implementation.
  • Demonstrate strong analytical skills, a good command of computer tools and an approach oriented towards industrial best practices.
  • Communicate effectively orally and in writing in English; Fluency in French and/or Swahili is an asset.
