This role ensures that maintenance strategies, shutdown activities, corrective work, and preventative programs are properly planned, executed, and controlled to maintain high availability and optimal facility integrity.

This position is essential to ensure continuity of production and prevent major failures that could lead to safety risks, environmental impacts or costly shutdowns.

He/She will have, among other things, the following essential functions (non-exhaustive):

Maintenance & Reliability:

  • Direct and supervise all mechanical, electrical and instrumentation maintenance activities within the Acid Plant.
  • Ensuring equipment reliability through effective implementation of preventive (PM), predictive (PdM) and corrective maintenance strategies.
  • Manage and update equipment histories, work plans, CMMS data and maintenance standards.
  • Ensure that all equipment — melter coils, agitators, burners, boilers, absorption towers, filters, pumps and conveyors — receive timely and quality maintenance.
  • Monitor the condition of the plant and intervene early on emerging mechanical risks (vibrations, temperature, leaks, corrosion, misalignments).
  • Validate the quality of repairs, the conformity of work and the integrity of equipment before any recommissioning.

Shutdown & Major Stoppages:

  • Develop and revise work scopes, task plans, workforce requirements, critical path logic, parts availability, and contractor mobilization.
  • Execute shutdown activities securely, efficiently, and within the approved budget and schedule.
  • Ensure that OEM recommendations are implemented and that all findings from inspections are addressed and closed.
  • Coordinate closely with production, engineering, and security teams, as well as with suppliers and contractors, to ensure optimal preparation and flawless execution of the shutdown.

Safety & Compliance:

  • Ensure full compliance with LOTOTO procedures, safe working methods, job risk analyses (JHA) and legal requirements.
  • Strictly enforce permit-to-work discipline and ensure safe execution of work in environments involving acid, steam, high temperatures and high pressures.
  • Identify, assess and mitigate risks associated with maintenance activities, including corrosion, mechanical integrity and equipment failure risks.
  • Conduct incident investigations (RCA), implement corrective actions and follow up until complete closure of actions.

Planning, Spare Parts & Work Quality:

  • Review daily, weekly and monthly maintenance plans with the planner/scheduler.
  • Ensure that critical parts are identified, in stock and available before maintenance activities.
  • Validate the quality of work performed, including torque tightening, alignment, weld quality, NDT results and commissioning tests.
  • Maintain close cooperation with the purchasing, warehouse and engineering teams to ensure material availability and technical readiness.

Reports & KPIs:

  • Monitor KPIs, including equipment availability, MTBF, backlog, PM compliance, shutdown progress, and maintenance costs.
  • Provide daily and weekly reports on maintenance execution, identified risks, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of inspection findings, OEM recommendations, and corrective actions implemented. Design Oversight: Oversee the design and implementation of tails dam expansion projects, ensuring that engineering solutions meet technical specifications and regulatory requirements…
