Kamoto Copper Company Société Anonyme, KCC SA in acronym, is a Congolese company operating in Kolwezi, capital of the province of Lualaba, in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

KCC SA exploits copper and cobalt ores on a large scale. It includes an underground mine, open-pit mines and integrated metallurgical facilities. The operation has one of the largest copper reserves in the world, with a current life of over 25 years.

Job description.

 

Under the direct supervision of the General Manager Capital Projects, the Superintendent Projects Safety is responsible for the implementation of the contractor safety management procedure for all Capital Projects at KCC site. He/ She supports operations and ensures that all contractors comply with health and safety requirements in accordance with Glencore standards and internal protocols.

He/She will have, among other things, the following essential functions (non-exhaustive):

 

  • Co-ordinate the implementation of the Contractor management procedure and improvement program.
  • Lead the team of safety advisors and support operations to ensure contractors are managed correctly on site.
  • Manage the actions identified during workshops, investigations, audits, investigations and follow-up of corrective actions identified concerning contractor management.
  • Support assurance audits and Contractor management gap assessment aligned to the Glencore standard.
  • Take ownership and provide guidance and advise to operational areas with regards to contractor’s Health and Safety.
  • Review monitor and report on deviations concerning contractors onboarding and authorisation.
  • Lead, guide and manage a team of safety advisors in the day to day contractor management activities
  • Develop the capabilities of the HS team in your area
  • Provide a strong support role in HS team development at both team and individual skill levels
  • Lead contractor site engagements initiatives and forums as well as relevant committees
  • Co-ordinate the implementation of the Life Saving Behaviours across site
  • Monitor performance of the health and safety advisors in area of responsibility
  • Collaborate with EDP department to support initiatives that support contractors performance improvement on health and safety
  • Conduct periodic internal audit to check the health status of contractor’s compliance to the procedure
  • Drive the site reporting to the responsible contractor owners and GMs of any deviations to the procedure.
  • Monitor individual performance in terms of contractor safety management business plan
  • Ensure tracking and follow up to the closure business plan action tracker and closure of actions from audits and other streams.
  • Monitor individual performance in terms of identified commitments and targets using a score card which is reviewed monthly and provide necessary response to poor performance.
  • Liaise with Fatal Risks Site and departmental Champions on the implementation of the Fatal Hazard Protocols

 

 

Job requirements.

 

Qualifications and experience.

  • Degree in Occupational Health & Safety or at least seven (7) years’ experience in middle management role in a large-scale mining sites.
  • Minimum 7 years’ experience in operations specifically working with contractor management systems
  • Extensive experience in the implementation of the OHSAS 18001 or similar systems.

 

 

Technical skills.

  • High level understanding of all relevant Safety and Health legislation
  • Good computer skills with the ability to use integrated management systems, word processing, presentation and spread sheet applications.
  • Strong report writing and presentation skills
  • Strong technical understanding and experience of safety matters for mentors and guides to improve local skill set
