Kamoto Copper Company Société Anonyme, KCC SA in acronym, is a Congolese company operating in Kolwezi, capital of the province of Lualaba, in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

KCC SA exploits copper and cobalt ores on a large scale. It includes an underground mine, open-pit mines and integrated metallurgical facilities. The operation has one of the largest copper reserves in the world, with a current life of over 25 years.

Under the direct supervision of the Survey Manager, the role of the incumbent will be to provide high-level operational support to mining survey activities, ensuring the accuracy, reliability and compliance of topographic operations. He/She will be responsible for effectively managing topography information systems, supervising teams, analyzing and validating the data produced, as well as providing technical expertise to the different sections: Open Pit, Underground Mine and Projects. The position also involves coordinating with various technical teams to optimize mine planning and production. He/She will ensure the strict application of safety and quality standards while contributing to the development of the teams' skills.

 

He/She will have, among others, the following responsibilities (non-exhaustive):

  • Conduct and supervise topographic operations. This includes planning, organizing and monitoring topographic and mining surveys, in open pits, underground mines and project areas. This also includes verifying that the work complies with regulatory standards and internal procedures, as well as optimizing the efficiency of the teams in the field.
  • Manage and analyze topographic data. This includes processing, cleaning, compiling and validating the collected data, generating mine, topographic, longitudinal, cross-sectional plans, and digital elevation models (DTMs). This also includes performing volumetric calculations, regularly updating pit shells and as-built plans, and managing the topographic database.
  • Provide technical expertise to surveying teams. This includes assisting in the resolution of complex technical problems, guidance on good survey practices, optimizing work methods, and ensuring compliance with professional standards and operational requirements.
  • Collaborate closely with the Operations, Geology and Engineering departments. This includes sharing, integrating, and interpreting topographic data to support production, mine planning, geological modeling, and operations improvement initiatives, while ensuring effective communication between stakeholders.
  • Provide training, mentoring and development of teams. This includes coaching junior surveyors and technicians, passing on good business practices, assessing technical skills, and implementing a continuous improvement program to build the team's capabilities.
  • Guarantee the quality and reliability of topographic data (QA/QC). This includes inspecting, verifying and approving the results produced by the teams, implementing rigorous quality controls, correcting discrepancies, and ensuring that all data meets internal and external standards.
  • Prepare and present technical reports and papers. This includes the production of topographic reports, maps, plans, analytical presentations and technical recommendations for management and other departments. This also includes the effective communication of key findings and interpretations.
  • Promote and enforce safety standards. This includes implementing the company's safety management system, facilitating safety briefings, participating in inspections and incident investigations, as well as supporting teams to ensure the safe use of topographic equipment.
  • Supervise the use and maintenance of topographic equipment. This includes the management of Total Stations, GNSS, scanners (long-range and short-range), UAVs and other specialized equipment. This also includes ensuring that they are in good condition, calibrating, and applying asset management procedures.
  • Coordinate topographic operational activities and provide technical support. This includes resource planning, task allocation, monitoring work progress, identifying risks or bottlenecks, as well as implementing solutions to improve productivity and overall service performance.

Job Requirements

 

Qualifications and Experience

  • Experience: Minimum 5 to 7 years of experience in mining surveys, with extensive knowledge of topographical techniques and mining operations.
  • Education: Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Mining Topography, Geomatics or similar discipline. Professional certification (registration as Mine Surveyor, drone pilot license) is an asset.
  • Technical skills: Proficiency in specialized software (Deswik, AutoCAD, RiMining, Trimble Business Center, Emesent Aura, DJI Terra), GPS, scanners, UAVs, as well as data processing and analysis tools.
  • Driving: Be able to drive a light vehicle (LV).
  • Leadership: Proven experience in supervising topographic teams and coordinating operational activities.
  • Communication: Excellent communication, analytical and problem-solving skills.

 

Technical skills.

  • Proficient in Deswik suite, TBC, AutoCAD, Rimining, QGIS and MS Office tools.
  • Expertly use Total Stations (Trimble, Leica) and GNSS systems.
  • Leverage long- and short-range laser scanners to capture accurate point clouds.
  • Manipulate UAVs and aerial acquisition systems, including data processing and integration.
  • Perform volumetric calculations, DTMs, pit shells, and as-built drawings accurately.
  • Ensure the quality, control and validation of the data produced by the teams.
  • Interpret, present and integrate topographic data into mining processes.
