Kamoto Copper Company Société Anonyme, KCC SA in acronym, is a Congolese company operating in Kolwezi, capital of the province of Lualaba, in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

KCC SA exploits copper and cobalt ores on a large scale. It includes an underground mine, open-pit mines and integrated metallurgical facilities. The operation has one of the largest copper reserves in the world, with a current life of over 25 years.

Job description.

 

Under the direct supervision of the Project Manager, the incumbent will work with the project and operational teams at KCC to ensure that capital projects are executed in a timely manner so that business interruption is minimized.  The engineer will initially work on various projects at different stages within a project lifecycle.  This will involve study reports, input and management of engineering specialists for studies and execution. The Project Engineer will assist the commercial teams in providing detailed and complete scopes of work for tendering purposes and may also assist in tender evaluation.  Daily, weekly and monthly reporting will be required as will the identification and highlighting of project delay and project risks.

He/She will have, among other things, the following essential functions (non-exhaustive):

 

  • Planning and Execution: Develop and implement detailed project plans for tails dam expansions, including timelines, resource allocation, and cost estimates. Use project management software to track progress and manage project schedules.
  • Coordination: Oversee coordination between project teams and operational staff to ensure seamless integration of project activities with ongoing mining operations. Facilitate regular meetings and communication to address any issues or changes in scope.
  • Budget Management: Monitor project expenditures and ensure that spending remains within budget. Identify cost-saving opportunities and adjust budgets as necessary to account for unforeseen changes.
  • Concept Studies: Lead the development of concept study reports, evaluating different design options and their feasibility. Collaborate with engineering specialists to ensure that designs are optimized for performance and safety.
  • Feasibility Studies: Manage the input and review of pre-feasibility and feasibility study reports. Ensure that all engineering analyses are thorough and that recommendations are supported by data.
  • Design Oversight: Oversee the design and implementation of tails dam expansion projects, ensuring that engineering solutions meet technical specifications and regulatory requirements..
  • Scope Development: Assist commercial teams in developing detailed and comprehensive scopes of work for tenders. Ensure that scopes accurately reflect project requirements and are aligned with technical specifications.
  • Tender Evaluation: Support the evaluation of tenders by providing technical insights and assessing the qualifications of bidders. Ensure that selected contractors meet project requirements and quality standards.
  • Risk Identification: Identify and assess potential project risks, including technical, financial, and operational risks. Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies to address these risks effectively.
  • Delay Management: Monitor project timelines and identify potential delays. Develop and implement corrective actions to address delays and ensure that projects stay on schedule.
  • Reporting: Prepare and submit daily, weekly, and monthly reports on project status, including progress updates, budget tracking, and risk assessments. Ensure that reports are clear, accurate, and timely.
  • Documentation: Maintain comprehensive project documentation, including design reports, feasibility studies, and regulatory compliance records. Ensure that all documentation is organized and accessible for review and audits.

 

 

Job requirements.

 

Qualifications and experience.

  • B Tech / National Diploma / Degree in Engineering or related field.
  • Project management certification (e.g., PMP) preferred.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in mining industry, with a strong focus on project management.
  • Proven experience in project management involving design, construction, and operation.
  • Experience in managing multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver projects on time and within budget.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills allowing you to quickly build trust and rapport with project and asset personnel.

 

 

Technical skills.

  • Proficient in project management software (e.g. MS Project).
  • Strong understanding of mining principles and practices.
  • Proficiency in engineering design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
