Glencore Copper is seeking a Principal Hydrogeologist to support the growth and development of our South American Copper Portfolio to be based in Santiago, Chile.

Our Team 

The Technical Services LATAM team is a recently established central function supporting existing and future operations and projects. The team is fundamental in delivering best practice operational performance and long-term strategy at our assets, as well as enabling Glencore’s ambitious growth plans. This role represents a significant opportunity to work in a high-performance team while supporting world class operations and projects across South America.  

 

The Opportunity 

The role is responsible for setting technical standards and deliver Hydro technical services to Major Capital Projects, guide and acting as second line of defence of the operating assets and Non-Operated Joint Ventures in meeting these standards and business planning objectives. 

 

In this role you will: 

  • Governance & Technical Assurance Process (TAP) 
  • Ensure complying of Guidelines (playbooks) and standardization of core disciplines Geomet and Mineral Processing 
  • Budget and Compliance to Plan 
  • Conduct TAP and Endorse Budget from Assets, including evaluation of the Risk Assessment of the Mine Plans 
  • Strategy & Growth 
  • Responsible of the Resources Development Plans (RDP) for Assets and Major Capital Projects. 
  • Support RDPs for NoJVs 
  • Responsible for Resources Range Analysis for the Assets and Projects. 
  • Wining Portfolio (Capital Projects) 
  • Develop Scope of Work and Study Work Plan for Resources Engineering on Major Capital Projects. 
  • Joint Ventures & Citizenship 
  • Participation on Owners Committees Technical and Sustaining in NoJVs. 

 

Your training, skills & expertise checklist: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Geology, Mining, Geotechnical, Engineering or similar. Postgraduate qualification in Hydrogeology will be a plus. 
  • 10+ years of experience across mining operations, consulting, and project development. 
  • Extensive Hydrogeology skills in large Open Pit hard rock mining operations, desire UG experience. 
  • Proven track record working with systems and software’s Resources and Hydrogeology modelling for mining, water management and/or environmental purposes. As Example: Leapfrog (Resources), ModFlow, SEEP/W models subsurface flow based on geological and hydrogeological data. CTRAN/W and MODPATH simulate contaminant movement using SEEP/W outputs. PHREEQC adds chemical realism to transport models. GoldSim aggregates all flows and interactions for site-wide water management. 
  • Sounded capacity in dealing with different cultures and backgrounds, ability to work under different environments. 
  • Demonstrated capability at a manager level leading a highly skilled professionals, and also developing a team of people. 
  • Ability to travel up to 30% to sites regionally. 
  • Advanced English and Spanish language skills.
