Watu Wetu SAS, WW SAS in acronym, is a company under Congolese law operating in Kolwezi, capital of the province of Lualaba in the Democratic Republic of Congo, with the main activity of managing a medical service for businesses and A training center. WW SAS serves the companies Kamoto Copper Company SA and Mutanda Mining SARL which are its main shareholders.

The company covers the medical care of all employees of these two companies as well as their family members.

WW SAS comprises three facilities, namely Watu Wetu Clinic in Mumi, Watu Wetu City Site and Watu Wetu Hospital in KCC. With additional services provided by third-party healthcare facilities for employees and dependents located in Lubumbashi and Kinshasa, as well as those referred for specialized treatment not available in Kolwezi.

Watu Wetu SAS provides health services to a population of approximately 70,000 people.

Job Description

 

Under the direct supervision of the Head of Department – Hospitalization. The internist is the specialist in the management of complex and systemic pathologies. He is the pivot of the clinic for the diagnosis and treatment of diseases affecting several organs, and plays a crucial role in the monitoring of patients with multiple pathologies, in close collaboration with other specialties (surgery, gynecology, pediatrics). Assist/support the clinical operation of Watu Wetu SAS.

 

He will have, among other things, the following responsibilities (non-exhaustive):

 

  • Patient care in internal medicine.
  • Consultations and diagnostics: Evaluate and diagnose patients with non-specific symptoms or complex and rare diseases (autoimmune diseases, chronic infections, inflammatory diseases, rare pathologies, etc.).
  • Hospitalization: Manage patients hospitalized in internal medicine, coordinate assessments (imaging, biology), and implement appropriate treatments.
  • Provide long-term monitoring of patients with chronic illnesses, adjust treatments and advise them to improve their quality of life.
  • Provide advice and consultations at the request of other departments (general surgery, gynecology, obstetrics, pediatrics).
  • Evaluate patients before surgery, particularly those with complex comorbidities (diabetes, hypertension, heart disease), to optimize their health status and minimize operative risks.
  • Manage medical complications (infections, metabolic imbalances, thromboembolism) that may occur post-operatively in patients in surgery, gynecology or pediatrics departments.
  • Act as a coordinator for the care of patients with multiple pathologies, ensuring liaison between the different specialists to ensure consistent and comprehensive treatment.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary consultation meetings (RCP) to discuss complex cases.
  • Contribute to the training of medical interns and nursing staff.
  • Participate in clinical research projects if the opportunity arises.
  • Assist and provide advice during internal medicine department visits at all health facilities in Watu Wetu.
  • Contribute to the quality of patient care by participating in case planning, and referral to internal or external medical specialists or other health care facilities.
  • Provide recommendations to the client to improve the services provided by the internal medicine services.
  • Ensure that all medical staff in internal medicine departments are aware of and comply with daily internal and operating procedures. This is particularly important in terms of handovers between rotating staff and during shift changes.
  • Ensure that tasks are performed professionally, efficiently and ethically, in accordance with international standards and evidence-based medical practices within the standard of care.
  • Establish a clear schedule for outpatient consultations
  • Ensure clear and documented patient handover and recovery (annual leave or change of team).
  • Ensure harmonious collaboration, teamwork and maintain good communication with all departments and disciplines within Watu Wetu, shareholders as well as with local doctors and health institutions.
  • Submit work reports as requested by hospital management
  • Submit performance reviews on time.
  • Ensure that complete, accurate, and concise medical records and reports (paper and digital) are maintained for patients, including a properly signed, dated, and legible entry in the patient's medical record for each patient attendance.
  • Ensure that the confidentiality of patient information and medical records is maintained.
  • Ensure that correspondence (i.e. referral letter, sick note, etc.) is completed in a timely manner and that all such correspondence is completed before the patient leaves Watu Wetu.
  • Ensure that all information entered into the hospital management system (Pro-Clin) is accurate, appropriate and in accordance with agreed protocols.
  • Develop, in coordination with the Head of Inpatient Department, continuous quality improvement and governance plans for internal medicine services.
  • Develop, implement and monitor medical management protocols based on best medical practices for the services.

 

 

 

Job requirements.       

     

 

Qualifications and experience.

 

 

  • Be of Congolese nationality.
  • Have a medical degree with extensive experience in internal medicine.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience after obtaining the specialist diploma.
  • Extensive experience in gynecology and obstetrics.
  • Experience in developing medical protocols, procedures and standards (gynecology and obstetrics) based on international standards.
  • Experience in managing internal medicine services or departments.
  • Experience working in a multicultural environment.
  • Be registered with the National Council of the Order of Physicians of the DRC (CNOM)
  • Fluency in French and Swahili.
