Kamoto Copper Company Société Anonyme, KCC SA in acronym, is a Congolese company operating in Kolwezi, capital of the province of Lualaba, in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

KCC SA exploits copper and cobalt ores on a large scale. It includes an underground mine, open-pit mines and integrated metallurgical facilities. The operation has one of the largest copper reserves in the world, with a current life of over 25 years.

Reporting directly to the IH Superintendent , the role of the incumbent will be to plan, implement and evaluate industrial hygiene monitoring programs, while providing technical expertise and advice to management to ensure compliance and continuous improvement of occupational health and safety practices. This includes identifying risks, developing control solutions and promoting a safety culture on site.

 

He/She will have, among other things, the following essential functions (non-exhaustive):

 

•    Conduct hygiene monitoring programs and evaluate their effectiveness : This includes the design, execution and analysis of sampling campaigns for chemical, physical and biological agents present in the workplace, in order to ensure that exposure levels meet established standards and to propose adjustments if necessary;
•    Identify industrial hygiene opportunities and threats and formulate improvement plans : This includes conducting proactive risk assessments, analyzing past incidents and proposing innovative strategies to strengthen management and staff involvement in achieving the company's health and safety objectives;
•    Provide specialized technical knowledge and advice to all levels of management : This includes providing in-depth expertise to resolve a wide range of challenges in industrial hygiene, emergency preparedness and related areas, requiring the development of solutions for new installations, unusual conditions and complex corrective actions;
•    Provide training and coaching to the on-site industrial hygiene team and staff : This includes developing and delivering customized training sessions, supporting team members in acquiring technical skills, and promoting industrial hygiene best practices to build their capacity;
•    Plan and conduct health and safety audits and inspections : This includes designing audit grids, conducting regular inspections of facilities and processes, and coordinating with external auditors to ensure continuous improvement of practices and compliance with the highest standards;
•    Liaise with all stakeholders regarding permits, exemptions and legal liability : This includes effective communication with regulators, lawyers, suppliers and internal staff to ensure all activities comply with applicable legal and regulatory requirements;
•    Continue to develop the industrial hygiene program and ensure compliance with emergency preparedness systems : This includes continually evaluating the effectiveness of the existing program, incorporating new technologies and best practices, and ensuring that emergency response plans are up to date and regularly tested;
•    risk control options and find cost -effective solutions: This includes evaluating engineering control methods (e.g., ventilation, containment), administrative controls, and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), prioritizing the most effective and economically viable solutions;
•    Continuously exchange and monitor the exchange of information to ensure effective improvement of knowledge : This includes facilitating communication between different operations and individuals, technological monitoring of advances in industrial hygiene and the dissemination of relevant information for the achievement of organizational objectives;
•    Providing clear and accurate information on complex occupational health and safety issues : This includes writing detailed reports, presenting data in a way that is understandable to different audiences, and popularizing technical concepts to enable informed decision-making.

 

Job requirements .


Qualifications and experience.

 

•    Have a Bachelor's degree in occupational health and safety, public health, or a related field of study;
•    Have at least five (5) years of experience on a mining site in the field of industrial hygiene;
•    Thorough knowledge of relevant laws, policies and procedures.,
•    A professional certification in Industrial Hygiene (e.g. CIH, etc. ) or Occupational Health is a major asset.

 

Technical skills.

 

•    Industrial Hygiene: Proven expertise in the measurement, evaluation and control of physical (noise, vibrations, heat) and chemical (dust, gas, vapors) agents.
•    Management Systems: In-depth knowledge of international standards such as ISO 45001 (Occupational Health and Safety).
•    Regulations: Mastery of Congolese laws and regulations relating to health and safety at work.
•    Analysis: Ability to perform root cause analysis ( RCA ) and interpret epidemiological or biological surveillance data.
•    Computer science: Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (advanced Excel) and in the use of health or safety databases.
