Kamoto Copper Company Société Anonyme, KCC SA in acronym, is a Congolese company operating in Kolwezi, capital of the province of Lualaba, in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

KCC SA exploits copper and cobalt ores on a large scale. It includes an underground mine, open-pit mines and integrated metallurgical facilities. The operation has one of the largest copper reserves in the world, with a current life of over 25 years.

An experienced Senior Surveyor is needed to provide operational support in mine surveying, ensuring accurate and efficient underground survey operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading survey teams, managing survey data, and providing technical expertise to support underground mining operations.


He/She will have, among other things, the following responsibilities (non-exhaustive list):

  • Safety
    • Promote and implement the company’s safety management system within all survey activities.
    • Promote survey standard operating procedures in alignment with KCC safety regulations.
    • Support the safe handling, care and usage of survey equipment in line with regulatory and company policies.
    • Participate actively in safety inspections, incident investigations, and improvement initiatives.

 

  • Key Responsibilities
    • Identify, record and report unsafe and substandard conditions.
    • Gathering and Processing of Survey data
    • Analysing, Interpret and Process Survey data
    • Communicating Survey Information
    • Performing underground excavation measurements
  • Installing survey pegs in Capital development to the required accuracy.
  • Installing direction lines and grades in Capital excavations.
  • Measuring complex excavations underground.
  • Mark up for underground development, stopes, vertical holes, stripping, DDH holes and other miscellaneous work as required.
  • Survey of long holes (up/down holes) with the SlimGyro or Boretrak for drill and blast QA/QC
  • Reporting, Prepare and Present survey reports, maps, analyses, and recommendations to management.
    • Perform Check Surveys
  • Maintain the underground control network including the survey baseline. Check surveys on every underground breakthrough. Maintaining the survey control database.
    • Supervising Capital Survey activities.
    • Produce electronic and physical layouts/instructions and notifications as required.
    • Produce electronic and physical holing instructions.
    • Maintaining the mine plan, survey book and accident plans in accordance with the code of practice
    • Assisting with the work outputs of junior teams.
    • Supervising, coaching and training survey team members.

 

  • Supervisory Responsibility
    • May supervise survey supervisors and technicians for operation support activities.
    • Coordinates survey activities according to survey procedures
    • Making sure QA/QC is performed on surveyors’ works.
    • Support in the development, coaching and training of junior staff where applicable.
    • Develop excellent relationships with peers, leaders and subordinates.

Job Requirements

Qualifications and experience

 

  • At least 5 years’ experience in underground mine surveying, in a senior role, with a strong understanding of surveying principles, technologies, and underground mining operations.
  • Tertiary Qualification – Advanced Diploma or Diploma in Mine Surveying or Geomatics, Degree in Geology, Mine engineering or related field.

Core Competencies

  • Strong mathematical skills, with the ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts and techniques to solve complex survey and geospatial problems.
  • Check survey experience
  • Long holes (up/down holes) survey experience
  • Proficiency and Experience in mine planning software (Deswik/Surpac), preferably Deswik.
  • Proficiency and Experience in mine survey instruments (Leica and Trimble), DJI Drones, Lidar scanners
  • Competent with survey hardware and software in UG and OP mining applications and conversant with developing technology.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills, with experience in supervising survey teams in OP and UG mining operations.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
