Kamoto Copper Company Société Anonyme, KCC SA in acronym, is a Congolese company operating in Kolwezi, capital of the province of Lualaba, in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
KCC SA exploits copper and cobalt ores on a large scale. It includes an underground mine, open-pit mines and integrated metallurgical facilities. The operation has one of the largest copper reserves in the world, with a current life of over 25 years.

The Senior Drill and Blast Engineer is responsible for leading and optimizing all the entire chain of drilling and blasting activities at KCC, ensuring they meet safety, efficiency, and production targets while supporting operation, mid & long-term mine planning teams.
This role requires strong technical expertise in blast design, QAQC, explosives management, vibration control, and wall control initiatives. The Senior Engineer will drive continuous improvement, mentor junior engineers, and act as a technical advisor for the upper management team in his department for all drill and blast matters.
Collaboration with Mine Engineering, Geotechnical, Operations, and external contractors is essential to ensure safe, cost-effective, and sustainable ore extraction with minimal dilution and maximum wall stability.
He/She will have, among other things, the following responsibilities (non-exhaustive list):
- Safety
- Champion and enforce the company’s safety standards in all drill and blast operations.
- Lead risk assessments and implement controls for each blast.
- Ensure strict compliance with all explosives handling, storage, and usage regulations.
- Actively participate in safety audits, incident reviews, and develop corrective action plans.
- Quality Assurance / Quality Control (QAQC)
- Lead implementation of QAQC systems for drilling accuracy, charging, and blast execution.
- Monitor and analyze blast performance (fragmentation, heaves, vibration, dilution & or loss).
- Drive initiatives for continuous improvement based on data analysis and field observations for COMU meeting.
- Develop and maintain compliance dashboards and performance KPIs for drilling & blasting activities.
- Data Management and Reporting
- Maintain accurate, high-quality records of blast designs, QAQC results, and explosives usage.
- Provide detailed blast performance reports and recommendations to management.
- Use data analytics to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for optimization.
- Collaboration and Integration
- Work closely with Geotechnical, Survey, and Mine Planning teams to align blast designs with geotechnical and production requirements.
- Manage relationships with drilling and blasting contractors, ensuring adherence to standards.
- Provide guidance and technical training to operations teams on best practices.
- Supervisory Responsibility
- Lead and mentor Drill & Blast Engineers, Technicians, and Field Assistants.
- Oversee contractor performance, ensuring compliance with design, safety, and company standards.
- Provide training, coaching, and technical development to junior staff and operational crews.
