Kamoto Copper Company Société Anonyme, KCC SA in acronym, is a Congolese company operating in Kolwezi, capital of the province of Lualaba, in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
KCC SA exploits copper and cobalt ores on a large scale. It includes an underground mine, open-pit mines and integrated metallurgical facilities. The operation has one of the largest copper reserves in the world, with a current life of over 25 years.

Under the direct supervision of the Senior Geotechnical Engineer, the role of the incumbent will be to support the geotechnical team in the management of risks related to instabilities in the underground terrain, whether they are of natural origin or caused by mining activities. He/she will ensure the collection, analysis and monitoring of geotechnical data essential to the safety and compliance of excavations. The position requires regular work in an underground environment, with a strong commitment to safety and quality standards. This role is essential to ensure the stability of underground mining operations and minimize the risk of falling blocks or landslides.
He/She will have, among others, the following responsibilities (non-exhaustive):
- Collect underground geotechnical data to support operations. This includes conducting regular measurements in the galleries, taking samples (shotcrete, grout, etc.) for quality control (QA/QC) purposes, and installing monitoring devices such as extensometers. This data is used to assess the stability of excavations and to guide operational decisions.
- Carry out compliance inspections with mining standards. This includes checking the condition of the installed supports, verifying the excavation methods used, and assessing compliance with safety procedures. The technician must report any deviations, propose corrections, and actively contribute to the continuous improvement of practices.
- Ensure the installation, maintenance and monitoring of geotechnical monitoring equipment. This includes the installation of measurement tools such as extensometers or convergence monitoring stations, regular data collection , as well as basic interpretation of the data before transmission to geotechnical engineers for further analysis.
- Mentor, train and coach team members in the field. This includes direct supervision of junior staff, training on good field practices, and mentoring to strengthen the technical skills of the team. The technician plays a key role in the transmission of know-how and in the respect of instructions.
- Enforce exclusion zones and safety procedures. This includes actively monitoring compliance with no-go zones, raising awareness of geotechnical risks among staff, and implementing immediate corrective actions in the event of a breach or incident observed.
- Control the quality of support products used in mines. This includes taking samples for laboratory analysis, visually verifying products (bolts, screens, shotcrete), and measuring the extent of rehabilitation work performed to ensure that it meets the intended technical specifications.
- Participate in the preparation of external audits and inspections. This includes collecting data and documents required by external auditors, participating in field visits during compliance audits, and responding to technical requests made by consultants or control bodies.
- Collaborate in the mobilization of specialized consultants and contractors. This includes logistical and technical assistance during the visit of external experts, site preparation, and follow-up of interventions carried out by service providers. The technician is the operational link between the field and the external experts.
- Ensure clear communication with internal departments and external stakeholders. This includes reporting information to the geotechnical department, writing daily or weekly technical reports, and participating in coordination meetings. Smooth communication is essential to ensure proactive risk management.
- Promote a culture of safety and discipline within the team. This includes strict adherence to PPE, participation in safety meetings, and encouraging exemplary behaviour in all team members. The technician acts as a role model for safe underground behaviour.
