Kamoto Copper Company Société Anonyme, KCC SA in acronym, is a Congolese company operating in Kolwezi, capital of the province of Lualaba, in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Job Description

 

The Senior Mine Planner – Medium Term is responsible for developing and implementing long- and medium-term mine plans for underground operations, ensuring safe and efficient mining practices. A key objective of this role is to train and mentor Junior Engineers toward Planning/Design Engineer positions.

 

He/She will have, among other, the following responsibilities (non-exhaustive list):

 

  • Develop and optimize underground mine plans, including stope design, level layouts, and mining schedules, taking into account geological factors, geotechnical conditions, logistical constraints, and ventilation.
  • Optimize and maintain rolling medium-term plans (up to 24 months) to achieve operational objectives and align the medium term with the strategic plan.
  • Integrate and optimize capital projects and major mine infrastructure into the mine plan to ensure timely delivery and support planned production.
  • Develop cost models, analyze operational data, and identify opportunities to optimize the mine plan, reduce costs, or improve productivity.
  • Identify, rectify, or escalate any potential risks related to the medium-term mine schedule to minimize operational disruptions.
  • Collaborate with geologists, surveyors, geotechnical engineers, and other stakeholders to collect data, share information, and ensure alignment with business strategies.
  • Provide technical expertise, guidance, and mentorship to Junior Engineers to support their professional development.
  • Ensure mine plans comply with Glencore’s Fatal Hazard Protocols as well as relevant legislation.

 

Job Requirements

 

Qualifications and Experience

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering.
  • Over 7 years of experience in underground mine planning, including design, scheduling, and production optimization.
  • Proficiency in mine planning software such as Deswik CAD and Deswik Sched.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven experience in developing and mentoring Junior Engineers.
  • Experience in ore reserve estimation and JORC Code reporting in large orebodies will be considered an asset.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities

 

  • Serve as a role model for Junior Engineers as a safety leader.
  • Ensure adherence to deadlines.
  • Organize and manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
