Kamoto Copper Company Société Anonyme, KCC SA in acronym, is a Congolese company operating in Kolwezi, capital of the province of Lualaba, in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

KCC SA exploits copper and cobalt ores on a large scale. It includes an underground mine, open-pit mines and integrated metallurgical facilities. The operation has one of the largest copper reserves in the world, with a current life of over 25 years.

As an industrial mining company, we provide safe workplaces and support the sustainable development of the local economy. We maintain a constructive and open dialogue with the communities that host us, as well as with the provincial and national government.

Under the direct supervision of the Core Shed and Sampling Superintendent,  the incumbent will be responsible for overseeing core deposit operations and sampling activities in an open pit (copper and cobalt) mining environment. He/she will ensure the efficient, safe and compliant management of drill cores, from receipt to archiving, while ensuring the integrity of samples and associated geological data. The position plays a key role in maintaining the quality of geoscience data, compliance with QA/QC standards, and coordinating with geology, laboratory, and exploration teams. He/she actively contributes to the optimization of sampling and storage practices according to the best industry standards.

He/She will have, among others, the following responsibilities (non-exhaustive):

  • Coordinate core logging and sampling activities. This includes the daily organization of the core logging process (lithological, structural, mineralogical description), ensuring that geologists have the samples available according to the exploration schedule. It is also a matter of ensuring that sampling procedures meet established QA/QC standards.
  • Supervise the handling, storage and transfer of cores. This includes managing the movement of cores between different deposits, storing them according to traceability standards, and following best practices to prevent sample deterioration. The coordinator will have to guarantee a clear, secure and clean organisation of the storage areas.
  • Ensure timely submission of samples to the laboratory. This includes planning and overseeing the shipment of samples to the laboratory based on project priorities. He/she will have to coordinate with the laboratory technicians to ensure that the analysis deadlines are respected and that the results are delivered without traceability errors.
  • Maintain QA/QC protocols and validate data. This includes the rigorous implementation and monitoring of QA/QC protocols in all stages of sampling. He/she will be responsible for ensuring that all data generated is valid, consistent and compliant with regulatory and industry requirements.
  • Train and support technicians and assistants. This includes ongoing training of core deposition and sampling personnel on procedures, safety standards, and the use of management software. It is also a question of supervising their work, strengthening skills and guaranteeing a high level of performance.
  • Generate reports and presentations on sampling activities. This includes regular reporting on sample status, team performance, non-conformances, and analytical results. These reports should allow management to monitor the performance of the core shed and guide geological decisions.
  • Update standard operating procedures (SOPs). This includes writing, reviewing and continuously improving SOPs related to sampling, core management, and the use of dedicated software. The goal is to maintain clear, compliant and best practice documentation.
  • Collaborate with geological teams and other departments. This includes closely coordinating with geologists, mine planners and environmental departments to ensure that core shed activities meet exploration, operation and environmental compliance needs.
  • Ensure HSE compliance in the core shed. This includes implementing safety management systems in all core depot operations, conducting internal audits, identifying risks and implementing corrective actions to ensure a safe and healthy working environment.
  • Manage core shed and sample tracking software. This includes the efficient use of core and data management software (e.g. GDMS, Datamine RM, Centric), updating databases and controlling the quality of recorded information. It is also a question of training users in these tools.
