The Role
We are seeking a motivated and safety-focused Manual Scaler to join the George Fisher Operations team. Reporting to the Supervisor - Scaling, this role is responsible for manually scaling loose or unstable rock from underground mine backs, walls, and faces to maintain safe ground conditions and prevent rockfalls.
This is an entry-level opportunity, with previous underground mining or scaling experience preferred but not essential, as training will be provided to the successful candidate.
This is a residential position operating on a 7/7 continuous day and night roster, allowing you to return home each day and enjoy the lifestyle that Mount Isa has to offer.

The Role
We are seeking a motivated and safety-focused Manual Scaler to join the George Fisher Operations team. Reporting to the Supervisor - Scaling, this role is responsible for manually scaling loose or unstable rock from underground mine backs, walls, and faces to maintain safe ground conditions and prevent rockfalls.
This is an entry-level opportunity, with previous underground mining or scaling experience preferred but not essential, as training will be provided to the successful candidate.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Conducting manual scaling using handheld scaling bars to remove loose or unsafe rock
- Inspect ground conditions in work areas and travel ways to identify hazards such as cracks, wedges, slabs and loose material
- Perform Stop Look Assess Manage (SLAMs) assessments prior to conducting scaling operations
- Communicate unsafe ground conditions to supervisors and the geotechnical engineering department
- Follow all ground control plans, geotechnical engineering guidance and safe work procedures
- Ensure scaling work areas are appropriately signed and barricaded in line with operating procedures
- Clean and secure the work area once scaling is complete
- Record scaling activities and submit to the database for geotechnical review
- Assist geotechnical engineers and specialists to conduct pull tests on installed ground support (including resin bolts, split sets, cable bolts) to verify installation quality and compliance
- Assist with set up and operation of pull-testing equipment
The successful candidate will possess:
- A current manual driver's licence
- Experience operating a Manitou / IT with manbasket
- Demonstrated experience in manual scaling within an underground mining environment
- The physical capability and willingness to perform a manually intensive role
- A strong commitment to safety, with a proactive approach to identifying and managing hazards
- A good attendance and safety record, with the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
- Strong problem-solving skills, a willingness to learn and the flexibility to perform a multi-skilled role
- Self-motivation and the ability to work effectively in a physically demanding environment
- The ability to successfully complete a pre-employment medical, including a drug and alcohol screening
