The Role
The Senior Electrical Engineer will play a critical role in delivering a major capital project within a brownfield mining and process plant environment. The role will support the Project Engineering Manager and wider project team to ensure the successful delivery of the Feasibility study and planning for the Execution phase. The position is responsible for managing engineering design consultants to ensure effective delivery of the electrical, process control and communications systems scope. The role requires expertise in mineral processing equipment, bulk materials handling, and broader processing operations, ensuring compliance with engineering standards, safety, and operational excellence.

The Role

The position is responsible for managing engineering design consultants to ensure effective delivery of the electrical, process control and communications systems scope. The role requires expertise in mineral processing equipment, bulk materials handling, and broader processing operations, ensuring compliance with engineering standards, safety, and operational excellence.
Key Requirements
- Act as the Owner’s technical electrical specialist for the FS; attend study workshops, manage design reviews and represent the client in technical and commercial discussions;
- Review consultant electrical engineering deliverables to ensure conformance to applicable Australian Standards, and project/site specifications;
- Lead electrical engineering design and review for process plant and other site infrastructure;
- Coordinate electrical, process control and communications systems design interfaces with site stakeholders to ensure compatibility and, where possible, optimisation of existing networks;
- Gather and challenge stakeholder feedback to ensure fit-for-project designs;
- Provide input into Owner’s team developed capital estimates and review and validate consultant’s inputs;
- Undertake site inspections and investigations to support accurate design information and coordinate with site stakeholders to improve as-built drawing accuracy;
- Develop and maintain electrical drawings, schematics, and documentation in compliance with site and statutory standards;
- Provide technical guidance during project feasibility, and execution phases;
- Provide input into project reporting and financial tracking;
- Collaborate with project managers and owners team members to ensure integration of electrical works within project scope, cost, and schedule;
- Provide input into execution planning;
- Conduct risk assessments, HAZOP/HAZID reviews, and ensure electrical safety compliance;
- Continuously look for improvement opportunities throughout the project design phase.
About you
The successful candidate will have:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent) and +8 years’ experience in a similar role on Major Projects within the resources/industrial industry (Client or EPCM side);
- Demonstrated experience in brownfield project delivery and understanding of interactions of various engineering disciplines during design and execution;
- Experience in managing engineering design consultants and construction contractors;
- Understanding of High Voltage systems – ability to manage design consultants;
- Demonstrated solutions-orientated attitude with ability to navigate multiple competing priorities in a construction/commissioning environment;
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills allowing you to quickly build trust and rapport with multidisciplinary project team and asset stakeholders;
- Demonstrated experience in LV electrical design, installation, and commissioning within mining or heavy industrial projects;
- Proven experience in mineral processing environments (concentrators, conveyors and associated process plant infrastructure);
- Demonstrated commercial and financial awareness;
- Strong knowledge of relevant standards (AS/NZS 3000, AS/NZS 61439, etc.), mining regulations, and electrical safety practices;
- Proficiency in electrical design and drafting software (e.g., AutoCAD, ETAP, or similar);
- Ability for frequent travel to Glencore’s Mt Isa operations when required.
Additional aspects that we’d view favourably are:
- Exposure to industrial automation (PLC/DCS/SCADA) and process control is desirable and familiarity with Yokogawa equipment is favourably;
- An understanding of project controls during all project stages;
- Sound knowledge of project phases and experience of managing projects from pre-feasibility to execution and operational handover;
- An understanding of Glencore’s Capital Management Framework (or similar);
- Ability to self-perform engineering design work;
- Ability to perform engineering trade-offs to assist engineering decisions made throughout the project lifecycle.
