Glencore Metals Australia is seeking a Superintendent – Category Management to join its Supply Chain Department. The role will be based in Brisbane working a Monday to Friday roster, with travel to various operational sites across Australia.

The Role
The Superintendent – Category Management is responsible for leading category management and strategic sourcing across Glencore Metals Australia (GMA). Reporting to the Manager – Sourcing, this role plays a critical leadership position in driving commercial value, cost efficiency and supply assurance across mining and fixed plant categories.
The role leads and develops a team responsible for delivering end-to-end category management and strategic sourcing outcomes, with a strong focus on commercial value, disciplined execution and data driven decision making. It partners with operational and corporate stakeholders to ensure category strategies deliver cost, performance and risk outcomes aligned with business priorities.
Key responsibilities include:
- Lead end-to-end category management and strategic sourcing, including market engagement, go to market strategies, negotiations and contract award.
- Partner with project teams, engineering, operations and maintenance stakeholders to align sourcing strategies with project schedules, execution models and lifecycle requirements.
- Analyse markets and suppliers to identify risks, opportunities and trends that inform competitive category strategies.
- Build and manage supplier relationships to support operational performance, supply reliability and commercial outcomes.
- Use data, systems and performance insights to inform decisions and improve category performance.
- Provide oversight and guidance to the tactical P2P team, including end-to-end order management.
- Define and uphold commercial governance and accountabilities across assigned category portfolios.
- Ensure sourcing and contracting activities comply with internal policies, governance frameworks and external regulatory requirements.
- Provide clear, accurate reporting to senior leaders on category performance, savings delivery and commercial risk.
- Lead and develop a high performing team, driving accountability, capability uplift and continuous improvement.
- Set clear performance expectations, support capability development and succession planning.
- Build strong relationships with operational and corporate stakeholders, influencing outcomes in a complex environment to deliver GMA priorities.
About You
You are an experienced commercial and sourcing professional who thrives in complex, asset intensive environments. You bring a strong balance of strategic thinking and practical execution, with the ability to lead teams, influence stakeholders and deliver value driven outcomes. Comfortable operating in fast paced settings, you take ownership of priorities, manage competing demands effectively and apply sound commercial judgement to support safe, reliable and cost effective operations. You are collaborative by nature, commercially astute and motivated by continuous improvement.
Required Skills & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Law, Supply Chain or other related discipline (preferred but not mandatory).
- Proficiency in contract management and procurement systems (Coupa and SAP highly regarded) and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Understanding of contracting models commonly used in capital projects (e.g. EPC, EPCM, construct only, supply only).
- Minimum 5 years’ experience across strategic sourcing, category management, capital projects or contract management within mining or heavy industry
- Demonstrated experience leading teams and delivering category management or strategic sourcing outcomes
- Ability to operate confidently at both strategic and operational levels, translating strategy into practical execution
- Highly developed negotiation, communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- Strong time management, prioritisation and delegation capability in fast paced environments
- Strong commercial acumen, including understanding of total cost of ownership, lifecycle cost drivers and value creation levers
