The role:
Glencore Zinc Assets Australia has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Senior – Financial Accountant to join our Financial Accounting & Reporting team. This is a permanent full-time role based in Brisbane, Australia.
This role will work across all of Glencore Metals Australia’s sites, including Mount Isa Mines, George Fisher Mine, McArthur River Mine, Murrin Murrin Operations and the Copper Refinery and the Port of Townsville to provide accurate and complete corporate accounting, tax accounting and financial governance outcomes by Glencore Australian Assets.
Your key accountabilities and responsibilities include:
- Demonstrate Health & Safety Leadership, ensuring compliance & create a proactive safety & well-being culture in the team.
- Preparation of Monthly and Quarterly financial accounts for the business
- Understand and assist with other Financial and Management reporting functions for the business
- Understand and assist with the tasks/processes involved in the Estimate (Forecast), annual Budget and Plan cycle
- Understand and assist with the tasks/processes involved in external and internal audit requirements
- Understand and assist with the tasks involved in gathering data for Information Requests & Reporting to External Stakeholders
- Ensure financial statements are prepared in accordance with Glencore Accounting Standards and IFRS
- Understanding of dual currency reporting and the related foreign exchange impacts.
- Coordinate & provide analytical support to the business for any projects, business development activities, business decisions or other option evaluations as required, including providing/maintaining documentation and recommendations
- Contribute to the development, continuous improvement and simplification of Financial Reporting
- Coordinate & prepare ad hoc analytical support to the finance teams, with a focus on knowledge sharing, building up their capabilities and continuous improvement
- Understand and be responsible for Capital Management (maintaining fixed asset register; capitalisations, disposals, WIP, impairments, etc)
- Understanding of the Leasing standard and preparation of lease analysis and accounting entry
- Assist with the collation of direct and indirect tax lodgement responsibilities and liaising with direct and indirect tax teams
- Tertiary qualification in Accounting / Commerce / Business.
- CA / CPA qualification.
- SAP and /or IBM Cognos TM1 skills will be highly regarded.
- Competent with Microsoft Office Suite, with advanced Excel knowledge.
- Strong analysis and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills and a strong attention to detail.
- Experience in the application of appropriate accounting standards, legislative requirements and practices within a commercial environment.
- Experience in the application of contemporary reporting, and financial management practices.
- Experience working in the mining industry will be highly regarded.
- 6+ year’s experience in Accounting/Finance.
- Ability to meet assigned deadlines.
- Ability to act and operate independently with minimal daily direction
- Proactively develop self. Ie. ability to be personally aware of own abilities, areas of strengths and improvement
