The Role
We are looking for a qualified Mechanical Engineering, Project Engineer professional for this position; experience in the mining (or similar) industry and strong project management skills would be essential. Reporting to the Superintendent – Smelter Projects, you will provide project management and engineering support for safely delivering capital projects within the Smelters portfolio. You will coordinate a team of mechanical engineers and graduates to deliver projects through scoping, evaluation, design, construction, commissioning and handover. You will provide visible leadership and build relationships with the asset teams to ensure we identify value-adding and business-critical initiatives. Your key responsibilities include:
  • Safe and successful delivery of capital, sustaining and asset improvement projects, including shutdowns, in a way that ensures quality, financial and technical alignment with the business objectives and Asset Management Strategies.
  • Lead and manage complex mechanical asset projects involving personnel from a variety of teams and professional disciplines to ensure the projects are delivered following the capital works program, including significant upgrades.
  • Performing calculations for safe and efficient component designs and upgrades.
  • Undertake options planning and define the scope for improvements to individual assets having regard to such matters as risk, operating options and cost.
  • Supervise and manage the design, tendering and delivery phases of projects and programs, ensuring that the reports, design plans and documentation are delivered in a timely and cost-effective manner and projects are delivered per specifications, standards, budgets and project management plan.
  • Managing external suppliers working on engineering projects to ensure all certification meets statutory requirements.
  • Ensure project delivery occurs following Glencore MIM processes and project management procedures, including project structures, controls and governance, risk management, stakeholder communications and reporting.
  • Responsible for building and maintaining sustainable partnerships with a broad range of stakeholders, but not limited to the execution and operational teams to prioritise work and ensure a smooth transition between executing a project and operating it.
  • Coordinate site construction activities as required to ensure safety; environmental, production & infrastructure risks are mitigated.
  • Responsible for providing visible leadership and ensuring compliance with MIM policies, standards and procedures for the Engineering team.
  • Responsible for developing a positive team culture in line with Glencore values including mentoring and coaching to build employee role competency (including ensuring the team is competent and qualified to complete assigned tasks).
The successful applicants will have:
  • 5+ years of engineering and project delivery experience and or maintenance engineering experience
  • 8 years of Mining / Heavy industry experience
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively complete document control activities
  • Demonstrated understanding of materials handling, processes, and their interrelationships (including maintenance systems, e.g., SAP)
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively at all levels
  • Experience supervising and developing large work teams to deliver business outcomes
  • Knowledge of and experience in budgeting processes
  • Basic level Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience generating engineering estimates and quotations
  • Capital Project Management experience
  • Logical thinker with the ability to solve problems and have the tenacity to work until a solution is found
  • A proactive attitude toward safety and procedural compliance
  • You will be a flexible individual who likes a challenge
  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to achieve results within the specified time frames
  • A strong customer focus, a high level of attention to detail and the ability to work well within a team environment or with minimal supervision
