Mount Isa Mines are currently advertising Mining Engineer that exists in the Technical Services team. This role is residentially based in Mount Isa, working a 5 days on, 2 days off, 4 days on, 3 days off – 9 hour shift. We encourage suitably qualified and experienced local candidates to apply. For those candidates located outside of Mount Isa, relocation support is available for this position to enable you and your family to live and work in Mount Isa.

About the role
This position reports to the Senior Mining Engineer and is responsible for delivering safe, practical and value optimised development and production designs that support near term operational scheduling at George Fisher Mine. This is an excellent opportunity to expand your technical capability within a large, complex underground hard rock operation with approximately 220 stopes and over 14 km of annual development.
Key responsibilities:
- Produce effective underground development designs aligned to the mine schedule
- Prepare safe and economical drill and blast designs for both development and production
- Complete predesign and operational inspections to verify compliance and support production effectiveness
- Conduct blast monitoring, perform timely stope reconciliations and integrate learnings into future designs
- Track activity progress and provide clear communication to schedulers and key stakeholders
- Monitor upcoming work and communicate design requirements across a rolling 4 week planning window
- Assist with updates to Management Plans, Procedures, Guidelines, TARPs and Standard Work Instructions
- Provide training, mentoring and guidance to new starters, Cadets and Graduates
About you – skills and experience:
You will bring
- A university degree in Engineering or Geoscience
- Minimum of 2 years’ underground hard rock mining experience, or 3+ years’ open cut/underground experience in Coal or Hard Rock
- Demonstrated capability in mine design and drill and blast
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience with mine planning software (Deswik preferred; Surpac, Vulcan or Datamine also suitable)
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a fast paced production environment
- High attention to detail, strong time management and a commitment to delivering quality technical outputs
