Mount Isa, Queensland, Australia
Ref. 102071

Are you a senior mining professional who can translate long-term strategy into practical, executable mine plans?

George Fisher Mine is seeking a Superintendent – Strategic Mine Planning to lead integrated planning for one of Australia's major underground metalliferous operations and help shape the mine's future direction.

This is a rare opportunity to lead a multidisciplinary technical team and strengthen the planning bridge between Life of Asset strategy, budget commitments, medium-term schedules and short-term operational execution.

The Operation
George Fisher Mine is a large-scale underground zinc-lead-silver operation with a complex mining sequence, multiple operating fronts, and significant interactions among development, stoping, ventilation, backfill, infrastructure, services, and production readiness.

This is more than a planning role; it is an opportunity to influence the future direction of George Fisher Mine, improve schedule confidence and build planning capability across the operation.

We offer a competitive remuneration package including 13% superannuation, a generous bonus incentive scheme, rental assistance, retail discounts, relocation support to Mount Isa and up to 12 weeks' temporary accommodation.

This position is offered on a residential 9-day fortnight (5/2 4/3) roster, providing a strong balance between operational leadership, technical delivery and lifestyle.

As a leader within Glencore Mount Isa Mines, you will have access to training, structured professional and personal development, and recognition programs designed to support your long-term success. Please visit our Livability website to learn more about what Mount Isa has to offer.

The Role:

The purpose of this role is to translate strategic planning objectives into practical, executable mine plans that support safe, reliable, and efficient production outcomes while improving schedule confidence, operational readiness, and long-term value delivery.

Your key responsibilities include:
  • Lead the strategic, long and medium-term planning and scheduling functions for George Fisher Mine.
  • Prepare and maintain integrated rolling mine plans that align with Life of Asset (LOA), budget and operational objectives.
  • Ensure clear alignment between long-term planning strategy, medium-term scheduling and short-term operational execution.
  • Identify, communicate and manage key mining constraints relating to development, stoping, ventilation, backfill, infrastructure, services and operational readiness.
  • Coordinate planning inputs across Technical Services and Operations to maintain integrated, practical and achievable schedules.
  • Support annual budget, forecast and business planning processes through accurate planning assumptions, schedule inputs and risk identification.
  • Review planning performance, schedule compliance and forecast accuracy to identify risks, remove constraints and improve future planning reliability.
  • Lead strategic planning studies and optimisation initiatives to improve production capability, sequencing flexibility and business performance.
  • Maintain planning governance, standards, assumptions and reporting frameworks across the department.
  • Coach, mentor, and develop planning engineers and schedulers, building technical capability and accountability within the team.
  • Ensure mine plans are developed with safety, practicality and operational execution in mind, supporting compliance with site standards and business objectives.
About you:
The successful applicant will bring:
  • Tertiary qualifications in Mining Engineering, Geology, Geoscience or a related discipline, combined with demonstrated underground mine planning capability.
  • Significant underground metalliferous mining experience, ideally in complex open stoping operations.
  • Demonstrated experience in strategic, long-term or medium-term mine planning within a complex underground mining environment.
  • Strong understanding of underground mine development, stoping sequences, ventilation, backfill, infrastructure, services and operational readiness constraints.
