Bench Assistant | McArthur River Mine

 

Glencore’s McArthur River Mine (MRM) is a world-class zinc-lead mine with a strong future. Located in the Gulf of Carpentaria, approximately 900 km southeast of Darwin and 64 km from Borroloola, we produce and process zinc, lead, and silver from our open-cut operation. Our products are transported to our Bing Bong loading facility and shipped globally, playing a crucial role in essential commodities used for mobility, infrastructure, and communications.

About the Role:

As a Bench Assistant, you will support Shotfirers in coordinating and loading explosives for blasting activities. Safety is central to all tasks, and strict adherence to procedures is essential. 

 

Key Accountabilities:

  • Ensure the safe use, storage, security, transport, and handling of explosives in line with statutory and company requirements
  • Follow instructions from Shotfirers and supervisors
  • Assist with loading explosives and priming blast holes
  • Dip blast holes and accurately record data for engineering teams
  • Establish and maintain delineation of active blast areas
  • Conduct pre-start checks on equipment
  • Perform bulk product quality testing as required
  • Operate ancillary equipment (e.g. stemming loaders)
  • Carry out duties safely, efficiently, and with minimal supervision

  

About You:

  • Experience in a production mining open pit environment in a similar position.
  • Comply & promote MRMs Core Values and Policies.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work in a team.
  • Unwavering commitment to safety.
  • Ability to maintain focus when dealing with competing demands.
  • Good communication & interpersonal skills    
  • Support Shotfirer Competency (RIIBLA205D Store, Handle and Transport). (Advantageous)
  • Current Police Clearance.
  • Current Drives Licence.
  • Ability to work in extreme heat and physically demanding environments
