The role in a nutshell

 

In this role, you’ll join the team responsible for the safe, compliant, and environmentally responsible operation, maintenance, and surveillance of the Geco and Willroy Legacy Mine Sites. This is a practical position within a small site team. The Site Technician will be primarily responsible for operating and monitoring the site's water treatment plant and associated pump stations, conducting routine site and infrastructure inspections, supporting preventative maintenance activities, and participating in environmental monitoring, tailings facility surveillance, risk management, and site reporting.

 

More specifically, you will be expected to

 

• Safely operate and monitor the water treatment plant, associated pump stations, water management systems, and related site infrastructure.
• Conduct routine inspections, operational checks, sampling, and monitoring of the water treatment plant, site infrastructure, tailings facilities, drainage systems, ponds, containment structures, and other related assets.
• Identify abnormal operating conditions, equipment issues, deficiencies, seepage, erosion, settlement, ponding, and other changes requiring attention, and take appropriate action or escalate as required.
• Maintain accurate operational, environmental, maintenance, and site records, including logs, checklists, photographs, inspection reports, and other required field documentation.
• Support emergency response activities and other operational requirements when needed.
• Promptly communicate significant findings, hazards, potential environmental concerns, and developing risks to the appropriate personnel.
• Support qualified technical personnel, consultants, and regulators during site inspections, assessments, and related activities.
• Perform preventive maintenance activities on pumps, piping, mechanical equipment, and other site infrastructure where trained, qualified, and authorized.
• Assist with diagnosing problems and minor repairs to pumps, piping, mechanical equipment, water treatment systems, and other site infrastructure.
• Identify maintenance requirements, coordinate specialized work where necessary, and track identified deficiencies through to completion.
• Support contractors working on site by assisting with site access, orientations, work planning, and field coordination.
• Participate in environmental monitoring, sampling, inspections, and reporting, in accordance with applicable legislation, permits, environmental management plans, and site procedures.
• Assist with the identification, mitigation, and correction of environmental concerns and other operational or infrastructure-related risks.
• Work in accordance with all health, safety, and environmental requirements, and participate in hazard assessments, inspections, risk assessments, and incident reporting.
• Complete daily, weekly, monthly, and event-based reports as required, and learn and consistently apply the site’s established documentation and reporting processes.
• The position does require on call support as scheduled by the site manager.

 

 

Do you have what it takes?

• Relevant experience in an industrial, mining, water treatment, wastewater, environmental, utilities, maintenance, construction, or similar field or environment preferred.
• Mechanical and operational skills beneficial.
• Commitment to health, safety, environmental protection, and regulatory compliance.
• Ability to work on their own and as part of a small team.
• Good attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records.
• Basic computer literacy and willingness to learn new software and reporting systems.
• Valid Class G2 driver's licence *minimum required.
• Ability to work outdoors and in varying weather conditions.
• Capable, willing and able to obtain provided confined space, working at heights and forklift training; and any other job related training
• Up to date First Aid and CPR training is a plus {Can be provided if needed}
• Practical, reliable and safety-focused
• Ability to identify issues, take initiative, document findings, and learn site-specific systems and processes will be highly valued.

 

 

Travel: You will be required to travel to the different sites approximately 15% of the time.

Language: Advanced proficiency in English (verbal and written) is mandatory.  

Location: 5 days a week at the GECO site in Falconbridge.

The expected base salary for this position is 61 000$ to 84 000$, based on competencies, skills, and qualifications and aligned with internal equity. The incumbent will also be eligible to participate in a variable compensation plan (bonus) (note: payment of variable compensation is subject to the terms and conditions of the variable compensation plan and is not guaranteed).
