HSEC Coordinator – Heath Steele and Brunswick Mines

The role in a nutshell

 

Reporting to the Reclamation Manager for Eastern Canada, you will be part of small teams responsible for operations, maintenance, and surveillance of the Heath Steele and Brunswick legacy mine sites. While these sites are no longer producing, don’t be fooled—there is still a wide range of ongoing activities.

 

You will work closely with the Site Manager and Water Treatment Plant Coordinator to ensure health and safety, contractor management, environmental management, environmental sampling, operation of water treatment and water management systems, community engagement, as well as tailings dam safety activities are performed according to Glencore standards and regulatory requirements.

 

You will also collaborate with the Health, Safety, Environment and Community (HSEC) team across North America. Your work will include implementing and documenting health, safety, and environmental management systems, and supporting risk assessment and mitigation. This includes maintaining site-specific safety and environmental procedures and ensuring compliance by all personnel on site.

 

More specifically, you will be required to:

 

• Assist management with implementing the HSEC program at the sites.
• Monitor progress of actions and report on compliance with the Legacy Assets HSEC Strategy.
• Assist with planning maintenance and project activities, ensuring HSEC and risk aspects are captured and mitigated.
• Maintain environmental data and support regulatory reporting requirements.
• Conduct environmental water sampling (surface and groundwater).
• Assist with operation of the water treatment plant.
• Maintain site documents, including safety plans, management plans, and Standard Operating Procedures.
• Support H&S and risk-related projects and initiatives.
• Inspect site infrastructure, including water management systems and tailings facilities.
• Supervise and coordinate HSEC and operations projects, including managing contractors.
• Organize and participate in stakeholder engagement.
• Perform operational inspections and assist with maintenance on pumps, valves, piping, mechanical, and other water management equipment as needed.
• Other duties as required.

 

Do you have what it takes?

 

• 5–7 years of relevant work, co-op, or research experience, including technical reporting, systems, or operating procedures development.
• Completion of post-secondary education or significant experience in a discipline related to health, safety, environment, community, or risk management.
• Ability to work safely at remote sites in all seasons.
• Advanced written communication and computer skills, featuring high proficiency in Word, Excel, and practical operating systems.
• Interest in learning industrial operations, particularly water management, pumping, and treatment.
• Knowledge of mining, environment, H&S regulations, process control, water treatment, mine reclamation, or tailings facilities is an asset.
• Good organizational and scheduling skills.
• Skilled at critical thinking and solving complex problems effectively.

 

Important information

 

• You are able to respond to site alarms and call-outs within a reasonable response time (approximately 1–2 hours). This requirement is on a rotating schedule.
• The standard work week is Monday to Friday.
• In the event of operational upsets, some weekend coverage may be required.
• The position is expected to involve approximately 40% field work and 60% office-based work.
• A valid driver’s license is required.

Language: Advanced proficiency in English (verbal and written) is mandatory.  The knowledge of French is beneficial.

Location: The position is primarily located at the Heath Steele or Brunswick legacy mine sites. These are remote locations.
